Default Offset key + new Cdi

I am planning to use a 6* offset flywheel key to advance my timing but with the arrival of a new cdi correcting to timing loss, will I have to remove my offset and but the old one back because there is to much timing advance? (And which offset key is the best for now 6 degree or 10 degree?)

Mike Penland had been there and doen that. Call him and ask.

I would guess that 6 degrees more is most appropriate for using a Vforce CDI on a Prairie.

However, if the CDI you get already has 33 or 34 degrees, then you don't even want to mess with an offset key.

Thank You, Legendary Nyroc.
And here is another question, was Mike Penland able to fit the new V-Force Cdi on the Prairie?

I talked to Mike Penland today about the offset key. He said go with the HL Module. I asked hime what if you used the Key and the module? He said it would make no difference. It seems that he likes the HL module.

The V Force cdi has 28* same as the Prairie the only difference apart from the other functions that the Prairie has is the V cdi holds the 28* right up to 8200 rpm where the P drops timing after 6500 rpm.

A timing key of 6* is only 6* for a 2 stroke the key you refer to is from the sled world it will produce only 4* of timing advance. If you want to install it with your new module it will work slightly better as the total timing advance will come to 32* not a problem Kawi engineers have stated that 32* is optimal. It will also work better with after market cams or advance your cams by 10*. Hope this helps.

AllToys,
How Much Do You Need To File The Stock Key To Achieve 6* Advanced Timing. I've Read Or Heard .040" And 1/16" (.062"). Which Is Correct And If .040" Is Correct, Would .062" Be 8*- 9*. Also, Would 36* Advance Timing Be Detrimental To Performance Or Harmful To The Engine,Thanks In Advance For Your Reply.

I called Mike Penland today, and he told me that we didn't need a offset key with the new HL module. the HL module will give the same kind of power as the offset key on top end.

Seems like Mike Penland knows something that no one else knows and H/L is not willing to talk about. (Details on how this unit works, that is)

Have you seen the graph on High Lifters site showing the High Lifter ICM Power Pak increasing the power all the way threw the power band till the top end?
