p360 Weight
#7
Guys, I have been trying to figure out why the 360 weighs as much as the P700.
One would think that the engine would save 40lbs alone just being a single 360cc and not a twin with dual 350cc cyls.
Add to that no water pump, no radiator, no radiator fan, and no water. No speedometer. Some of these things don't weigh much, but it all adds up.
I realize it has fins, but that is probably lighter than the extra aluminum needed to create a water jacket.
I realize it has an oil cooler, but it is small and oil weighs less than water anyway.
I realize it shares as many drivetrain components as the 700 as possible. But for all the things that are the same, there are so many things that are less. That means something has to actually be heavier. Steel wheels? What?
I don't mean to knock the 360, but something on it is heavier than our P650 and P700s. Anyone know? Lead filled frame? I stood and stared at a 360 one day wondering where the weight was coming from and couldn't figure it out.
Why is it so heavy?

One thing on the p360 to the p700 (have both) is it has decentally thick steel skid plates not the thin aluminum ones. Steel wheels I'm sure have an effect as well. The frame is different so maybe its not as weight efficient. Maybe cheaper metals that are heavier? The front struts and a arms look like they would be heavier. I'm sure there are lots of little items like these that add up.

Cheaper materials are generally heavier.
You are probably right about the frame, wheels, and skids. A frame made from chromoly can weigh less yet still be stronger than a frame made from lower grade steel that is nearly dead soft.
