I would keep off the road as much as possible. I rode mine on the road at Hatfield McCoy a couple days and I could visually see the wear.

IMO, the Mud Lites are a great tire for mid sized quads... but I think they wear much to quickly to mount on a "fun" quad like the 650 / 700 Prairie ( maybe I just like to turn over my rear tires too much ??? )... If you are putting them on 5-6 miles of pavement every time you ride, you'll be lucky to get a year out of them... part of why they get such good traction, is a softer rubber compound, coupled with skelletonized lugs... with this combo the pavement will eat them up...

No tire made for a utility quad will be satisfactory on pavement, period.

None of the mud tires are worth a darn on pavement. I've a set of Carlisle Swamp Pros that work great on the rear but the fronts were gone in 500 miles. These things are a lot harder rubber than the Mudlites. Something along the lines of the 489 design works well on pavement but we all know they're not much in the muck.

If you find something that works well, please let me know. We ride the roads a lot around here.

There are (smaller) asphalt tires for race quads by Hoosier, I think.

I'm not disagreeing with anyone here, but my expirience has shown so far, that the 26 & 27" Goodyear Mudrunners are an excellent mud & snow tire, provide reasonable smooth ride, perform pretty good in most situations, & wear like Iron... they would be one of my 1st choices, if you had to have good mud performance, & spend a few miles each time on the road... IMO, the new Goodyear radial Rawhide MTR's may turn out to have the best road wear & manners, as they very closely mimmic the truck radials D.O.T. approved tread...

I guess that I am lucky enough NOT to have to ride much pavement to access WNF or the Hat/McCoy Trails. I HATE riding the pavement................................

I now have 850 hard miles on my 25" mudlites and they look like crap! I have performed many timed runs at 100' and 300' on asphalt on these tires and they definitely look worn/beat up on the outside. I attribute this to the soft rubber compound the tire is made of. However, I have been happy with its durability to date...no punctures (knock on wood) so far, even during a recent 2 hour GNCC race! Its a tough tire IMO, but the soft rubber compound should be upgraded to harder compound so that we can get more miles out of it...especially if we occasionally hit pavement on our way to the trails.

Newbeetle, I was dead set on buying a set of 25" Goodyear Mudrunners until I discovered how much heavier they are as compared to my 25" mudlites...so I chose mudlites instead. For my next set of trail tires, I'm thinking of going to 25" Bighorns (if I have enuf money for them) or 25" Bearclaws (which are now 6 ply tires I'm told). BTW, both of these 2 tire choices are also lighter than the Mudrunners as I recall. I posted the differences in weights on this forum under a thread entitled "ATV tire and rim comparisons"...or something like that.

Happy trails...
