Bayou tires?
#1
I was wondering what fellow Bayou owners are running for tires. I’ve considered switching to Bear claws, but a friend of mine swears by his wooly buggers (he only has them on the rear of his Honda). Since I ride all sorts of terrain I’d like to find a good all round tire. Any suggestions would be helpful.

You forgot to mention what size Bayou you have. If you are driving the 300 Bayou you are limited.Because of muscle, if you have the 400 liquid, id say the Vampires are a nice choice i run those on mine.25x9.5x11 on the front and the 25x12x11 on the rear with a Highlifter lift kit this combination is great. I noticed a 75% improvenment in my traction. Now the 300 Bayou well i think the bear-claws are the choice there i have found that the 300 lacks guts with the larger tires on.So id stick with the same size tires but with a different tread design like the bear-claws.

I ride a 2wd Bayou 300. I'm also wondering if I should change only the rear due to the fact the quad is only a 2wd. As much as I'd like to have a 4x4, the Bayou takes me 95% of the place I want to go hassle free. Now if Kawasaki redesigned the Bayou so that it could compete with the new Rancher with some of the features found on the King Quad I’d be the first in line. But until my dream machine is created I’m sticking with what I got. Just a few handy mods are needed.

Hey.... I Own a Bayou 300 4x4, and i am planing on putting 25" bear claws on all four coners. I dont think it would have any problem pulling them, it has lots of power with stock tires, it can move..... I know a guy with 25" Mud Machine Tri_claws on the rear of his 300 4x4, and he has no problem pulling them. I say go for the 25" bear claws on the rear. The only thing is that the rear of the quad will be higher than the front of the quad..... No biggie....... Good Luck!

I own a '91 Bayou 300 4x4 and a '96 Bayou 400 4x4.
During the Spring of '99 I put 25x8x11 Goodyear Mudrunners on the front of both machines and 25x10x11s on the back in preparation for the Cochranton Poker Run.
My then 13-year old dughter on the 300, and I on the 400, had no problems completing the very muddy 35 miles of Trail B.
Later I rode the 400 at the super muddy Salamanca Poker Run in May. During July '99 I rode the 300 at the first annual Quads-On-The-Rocks ride at Tasker's Gap (see the 8-15-99 Tasker's Gap article by Jim Cowgill in the Features Section for details and pictures).
Just recently in April '00, my daughter and I rode the second annual Quads-On-The-Rocks ride on our Mudrunner equipped Bayous.
Whether deep, sticky mud or huge rocks, the Mudrunners performed flawlessly. If they have any drawback at all, it's the cost. I paid $375 for each set of four, but so far I can honestly say it was worth every penny.
Finally, I have not noticed any lack of power on the Mudrunner equipped 300. It pulls well and tops out at about 40 MPH in 5th gear (the same as it did with the stock Dunlop KT962As).
If you have the money, I don't believe there is a better all around tire for either Bayou than the Mudrunner. They are also exceptionally smooth riding on hardpack (or on pavement where I am sometimes forced to ride).
