Default Dial A Jet --- Jetting.

Just got dial a jets installed. I went two jet sizes down. This put me back at stock jet sizes. I know that I am suppose to create a lean condition, but unloaded in neutral I stab the throttle and the carbs cough and exhausts pops. This happens until about 1/4 throttle. It then picks up and revs somewhat normal. When letting off the throttle the exhaust again pops. I tried setting the air screw this had no effect with engine rpm at all on the front air screw, the rear had a small range of effect but not like it did. If choke was half way engaged this problem did not exist. I feel that I may have to go up one jet size and see. Before I do this I would like some input from some of you guys. Any helpwould be great.

Default Dial A Jet --- Jetting.

Dan,
I am at 100 feet above sea level and I run the stock size main jets with my DAJ...it seems to run great with this set up...however, everyone's jetting needs may be different due to differences in temp and/or altitude.

I think you are on the right path...with the choke situation you described, it sounds to me like you are running too lean. If it runs crappy below 1/4 throttle, perhaps you should just remove the shims on your needles. I would also suggest that you read the spark plugs after doing a 3/4 to WOT shut down test. That should tell you if you need to go up 1 size on the main jets.

Good luck and happy trails...

I assume you cranked up the dial-a-jets to a richer setting, or do you still have it in the middle jet setting ( factory setting )... the rpm range of your problems, leads me to believe Mikey is right about the needles... however I'd think you need to make that circuit richer... are your needles still stock, or have you shimmed them ???
