Just4kicks, As I mentioned in the photos of the moose, there was another one and he did not like his picture taken. Like an idiot I tried to get a picture of him while he was laying down and he had his back to me so I went around thru the trees and got right in front of him and the photo was going to have to many trees in it. So I got a little closer(try 5 feet) and this time there was no trees in the way, well he came up off the ground so quick I just tucked the camera behind me and hauled @$$, he had his horns down so he did not make it far, if he had layed his horns back he would of got me. Luckily the camera was fine and after my heart stopped racing I went back and shot a roll of film from a distance. I wish the light would of been better, there was alot of fog and the pic's look like they are black-n-white. In the fall the bulls get rather aggressive and they will come right up to you real quite and when they smell you they snort real loud and scare the crap out of you, you would think an animal weighing 1500 pounds would make noise. Nope. They can walk like a cat in the woods. AKBoy.

Wow! Great story Alaskaboy. Those bulls are just awsome and this comes from someone who has never seen one in person. The biggest thing we have to worry about where I am is the Western Diamondback rattle snake. When it starts warming up they seem to come out in force and they blend in all too well with the desert. I've come right up on them and nearly stepped on them before they would even rattle. I really have to watch the kids in the summer time.

AlaskaBoy, stupid question but for size comparison if you were standing right next to that moose where would the top of your head be on the moose? Pictures don't really show the true size without something next to them. Also to stay on topic somewhat, I'll have my V-Force put all back together this weekend and post some new pics.

Mark82, I am 5'11" and my head would be about level with the top of his hump give or take a couple of inches. Weight on this one is around the 1300 to 1500 hundred pounds and I am guessing his horns would be over 100 pounds for the two of them. I traded a set of horns that were about 3/4 that size and they weighed 81 pounds without skull plate. I have another photo of the two bulls together and either one is a trophy and freezer filler but this one makes the other one look like a 3 year old bull. AlaskaBoy.

alaskaboy, great pics!!! when i was in the navy I flew into alaska for an op. and the pictures don't do the scenery justice. on a seperate note we hooked up with these girls at a bar i believe was called the gaslight(?) ring any bells? how about the alaskan bush company? the girls were offended when we called 'em Eskimos (drunken sailors always say the sweetest things) they were some sort of indian called an alyoot(?) right after we took off, an awacs crashed killing all aboard due to a flock of geese fouling the engines. does Elmendorf afb sound familiar. anyway, enjoy it up there you got it made in the shade!! :

Grapeape, I do know Elemendorf, I lived on Fort Rich for 2 years with my brother. I remember the AWACS crash, it left a huge trail of debris almost to FT Rich, sucked up alot of geese. As for the girls they were ALUET, I believe. Oh yes, the BUSH COMPANY found memeories of spending lots of money and the fantasy of gettting one of them girls to go home with. I actualy lived with one of the strippers from there, she was my roomates girlfriend and boy the parties that would happen at our place after the club would close. I worked nights and I would come home to naked women and empty beer bottles everywhere(for the underage people, FIND ANOTHER THREAD), I liked the parties better when I was off and able to attend. I recall the time I took and old girlfriend to the BUSH and the guys stared at here more then the dancers and gave me thumbsup and big grins. Oh well back to reality. The problem of growing up and being responsible(kids I told to go away, LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST as you have to grow up eventtualy). Yes, the photos do not do justice to what Alaska is realy like. When I got up here I was taking pictures of everything. I have seen whales jumping, bears fighting and digging up marmots(at least trying) moose fighting, fish runs that you could walk across the backs of, mountains bathed in sunlight with the first snowfall and trees filled with Eagles and I could go on with all the wonders I have seen and wish I had a camera everytime it happened to capture it. I do have it made in the shade.AlaskaBoy.
