Take the VIN off the frame of the bike (usually located just under the foot peg). The dealer can research that particular VIN and tell you what year it is and/or if it's been in the dealer for any repairs.

No. The VIN will tell the year model, but not whether the seller is lying. If the seller gives you the incorrect year, he could be honestly mistaken; he may have been misled himself.

You can feed the VIN to the www.buykawasaki.com parts catalog and the correct year will emerge.

The vin should start with JKA... Look at the 10th digit in the vin. If it is a "P" it's a 93.
M is 91
N is 92
R is 94
S is 95
