Default Mojave - Youth Production Class

Just curious of you guys thoughts on running a Mojave in the youth production class. As far as regular riding, my boy moved up to a 400ex last year, but he wants to race this year and since we allready had the Mojave in the garage I decided to build that for MX.

It seems to me the Mojave has an advantage engine wise with the class rules. Blasters have to run stock bore, and 300ex's can only bore up a little and have no liquid cooling.

I took the motor to CWR, it now has 300cc kit, .380 cams, Ti valve springs, hardened rocker arms, +1mm valves, ported head, and hd clutch springs. I also put a 36mm mkuni carb and KLR cdi on it.

It's got +3 Burgards up front, and waiting on a +2 swingarm, Elka shocks front and rear. I switched the rear hubs out with Cannondale aluminum hubs, and have a set of Moto rear beadlocks. The one thing I'm concerned about is the stock steering stem, but I'm working on a solution for that. I've got 2 spare stock Cannondale stems (made by Arens) in the garage, and they are real close to the same length and the tie rod plates are close. I just need to work on an upper mount and I think I can make it work.

So will it be competetive?

i dont think you will have any problems at all. look at what lurch and mojave addict do with theirs. i was wondering what the waiting time to get all your suspension parts was(a arms and stuff).

I got the a-arms last year, and from what I remember it took about 1 month. I actually like CWR's arms better and they would be quicker.

Swingarm should normally take about 2 weeks from CWR, there was a mistake on mine so it's taking a little longer.

Shocks where at the door in about a week, Elka has awsome turnaround times.

You will have as good a quad as any in the class. I do think some 300ex's are cheating in that class with more than 300 cc's but you should have no problem with them. The only thing you may end up wanting to do to the engine is change the carb. The 36 works good but it is hard to get the best responce without an accel pump in the carb. Sounds like a great quad and it will work really good. Make sure you take the time to fool around with the shocks and ride height to get it dialed in just right. You will soon find that the Mojave deserves more respect than it gets. Good luck with it.

Mojaveaddict, I'm curious about your carb comments. I've got a 400ex carb that I was going to run but I was told the 36 would perform better because the Mojave motor doesn't make good use of the pump.
