Default help me with my dial-a-jet setup

Took the mad kaw for a spin today.....was a really crappy day. First i slam my trailer tounge into the tailgate of my month old truck, then my Prairie runs pretty bad, the my buddy rolls his rincon end over end and breaks his leg.........thank god for cell phones, luckily we were in a spot that a 4x4 rescue unit could reach us!!

Here's the the syptoms with my bike. Its very sluggish still on bottom. At about 45 is studders and bogs than lines out till about 50-55. It's running VERY RICH!!!!! When i got home i tried adjusting the dial-a-jet but went the wrong direction......i think. It barley pulled itself. Went back the other direction and same deal. Im pretty sure i fouled my plugs when i richened it up.

My question is, do you think i can get the bike to run good just my leaning the settings on the Dial-a-jets??? Or do you think i should drop a jet size in both carbs??? Or should i drop two sizes??

BTW. My bike is the best sounding in my riding group. INHO Now if i could just get the jetting right

thanks for the help

with those dial a jets the bike must be lean before you install . the dialajet only works when you need more fuel, so the bike has to be lean then when you hit the gas the dial a jet adds fuel but if you don't need it (Gas) it will not add it. if theres no change then you're rich because the dialajet doesn't add fuel if you don't need it.

Cartman,
As you will recall, mine also ran too rich soon after I first installed my DAJs (especially after the temps rose to 65 degrees or more). Last Sat, I rejetted (dropped 2 sizes on my main jets) and it now runs good (it appears to have stopped surging at 30 mph and above like it was doing previously whenever the temps were above 65 degrees). However, I still need to do some timed test runs at 100 and 300 feet and a top-speed run to make sure it accelerates at least as fast as it did before I rejetted (especially when the temps were below 65 degrees).

Unfortunately, I forsee some more trial and error tactics to select the right size main jets to compliment my DAJs. I was hoping to avoid that! One thing is for sure, I now know that installing DAJs was not the majic solution to avoiding rejetting my carbs after I did the Napa hose/Nyroc Mod/Twin Air filter.

Perhaps this info will help you...I can tell you that mine ran too rich with stock jets (after the temps got to 65 degrees or warmer) no matter what DAJ setting I had it on. I even noticed that the inside of the air box (near the DAJ bodies) was VERY moist with gasoline...keep in mind that the DAJs are supposed to purge themselves after you let off of WOT...but my air box was way too wet to be caused from the purging alone so I figured out that my surging problem was caused by the carbs being too rich. Eventually, I will need to do a shutdown spark plug reading (or whatever its called) to see for sure whether I'm now jetted correctly.

Good luck to you! Happy trails...
