Default 650 Seat question

After a 2 day 150 mile ride at Hatfield/McCoy last week I have decided to look into having my seat redone.I was wondering if anyone has ever tried this on anything.I was thinking about going to a softer foam and possibly thicker. Has anyone ever tried this on a quad or even a motorcycle? If so what was the price? I rode one of the guys grizz's and on a straight trail it rode like a Lincoln. Now I know a seat alone is not the answer but maybe it could cushion the bumps more.BTW....after riding the grizz I was STILL glad I got the 650.Any input would be appreciated.

Default 650 Seat question

Well I just had this done to my 650 last week and it made a huge differance! I had softer foam put in and had it about 2in. thicker. When it was all done it looked good and now I don't mind sitting on my butt for awhile, without it going num. I had mine done buy D&S Uphostery in PA. The cost was $85.00. Money well spent.....

How about one of those gel seat covers ? I don't know who sells them but I have read before on other posts that the gel seat covers make a big difference.Cabela's also sells a padded seat cover that is held on by straps.

If your not a too agressive a rider you could lighten up the pre-load on your rear shock. It made a noticable difference for me. I set it soft for long rides like HM and stiffer if I will be doing some agressive riding like jumping. HTH

Hardwood, was he able to match the new cover appearance wise to the old? I am assuming since you went two inches thicker the orig cover would no longer fit.Cleve,I have heard of the gel seat thing but could not locate them anywhere and easter backing off the preload is a no go because I carry a box on the back and it makes it squat enough already.

Tough part is going to be getting the right foam density, I'm not sure what's available. Any good upholstery shop should be able to make what you want as long as you are specific about shape. I'd be really tempted to try and find a used seat before you start, it'll let you make mistakes without ruining the original.

He used the same seat cover but it is thicker? He did it somehow. The only thing I know is when you sit on it it gives enough so that you can hear the air push out from the seat, the old way it was like sitting on a brick after awhile. How he said he did it was he had to take the cover off and and compair the foams. Like Chilly said any good upholstery place could do it.

kodiac1,I did a search and keyed in gel seat cover...from the few comments I read on that kind of seat cover...they weren't good! (waste of money,no difference in comfort).I think maybe changing the foam in the seat might be a better option.

all i know is that my buddys rincons seat is awsome to sit on!!! that thing is unbelievably soft! they said that it is made from a soft memory foam?? i'm wondering if it's the same stuff that you see that tepur-pedic mattress that they sell on tv is made of? it would be cool to have a seat made out of that stuff!!
