How does the Prairie do against a 400EX
#11
there were about 15 of us. my buddy and me on 700p"s, a some 500 scrambles, 2 400ex's ( 1 had a bet with my buddy) , a couple of 650p's , a 660 raptor and i don't know what else.. we all line up in a bean field and raced about three yards. i beat everyone exept the 660. he totally blew me away.the 400ex that bet my buddy beat him.both 700's were stock.

When my P650 was stock, I ran many races with a bone stock 400 EX on asphalt. In every race, I would get the holeshot and stay in front of him for a little ways and then he'd slowly start passing me. At the end of 1/8 mile, he would be about a quad length in front of me.

I sold it because I really never used the 4WD, and it's against my meager upbringing to sink a $6500 ATV in a mudhole, even if it is coming out the other side.
I have a VForce now it's what I should have bought to begin with. I've smiled more in the past week than I did the previous month...love it!

I have raced a stock 400ex with my stock p650 numerous times on pavement. The result is always the same. I take him off the line and have about a bike length or two up to about 50mph or so, at which point he starts to creep by me and continues to pull away.

I can tell you guy's from experience, a stock Prairie 700 and a stock Scrambler 500 run pretty much even in 300ft. Top end the Prairie has a slight advantage. Just to set the record strait, n2 never "Smoked a Scrambler" on his Prairie. I was the one riding this 500 Scrambler when he raced it. We truely raced each other twice, he won the first race by less than 2 quad lengths and the second race we TIED in 300ft. If we would have raced 400ft he would have won by a small margin. These are the facts!! This thing he calls a roller-whatever is simply a Team Ind. roller secondary clutch.

Good stories, any more?

N2xlr8n,
Now I'm very curious! How would you compare the acceleration (not top speed) of your old P700 (which had the cams repositioned to be the same as V-force cams and other mods) to your new V-force? With the cams being equal now, I would guess that the V-force's 90 lbs less weight and different cdi is NOT enuf to make a HUGE difference in the acceleration over the old P700. Is my guess right or is there a SIGNIFICANT difference in the acceleration between your old P700 and the new V-force?

Okay.

Unfortunately, I don't have any recorded times, only the seat of the pants. My VForce is more stock (HMF Duals, jetted, pink spring, stock airbox) than my Prairie was, but it's significantly quicker. I ride the same trails, and the point at which I have to begin braking before a turn is a lot earlier. 90 lbs. is 15% less weight than the P700.....to put it in perspective, if I reduced my street car's weight by 15%, it would pick up over 3/10ths in the quarter.....that's a lot. It accelerates quicker, though (I haven't GPS'ed it yet) I believe the top speed to be within 1-2 mph of each other, the VForce having the edge. HTH!
Steve
