To all NYROC muffler mod guys
#12
Ok i have read the pirate atv article and I have a few questions for someone who has done this. Just cut the weld around the muffler not straight through right. next drill the holes I got that part but then with the end you cut off it has the baffle or whatever that is left on it you simpley cut that section out and discard it. Is this still going to be legal for riding where you need spark arrestors and etc. Then jsut weld the tip back on.

I cut the muffler right on the factory weld. With the end off, I then drilled 8 - 3/8" holes with a 12" bit through the baffles. Next I took a hole saw big enough to go just inside the tip of the muffler outlet (maybe a 1 1/8 or 1 3/8) and cut through the arrestor from the outside and then the inside. I then removed the packing from the tip and chucked it. Next I made sure to get all of the metal chips out of the muffler. Then I welded the end back on and weld a stainles sink drain cover on the tip to dress it up. It has rather large holes in it so as to not negate what I just tried to accomplish. The true NYROC mod would have you cut the arrestor holder if you will, completely off from the inside and outside to really open it up. Hope this helps!

if you enlarge the ehaust hole(baffle), you will no longer have a spark arrestor. if you cut straight through you will be cutting into the baffle.

I myself do quite abit of riding in natl forests I have never had anyone ever ask if the atv had a sparks arrestor has anyone else riding a mostly stock utility atv ever been stopped and "searched". Since it is still stock looking I don't think it would ever be an issue. Plus it is not supposed to be exceptionally loud so...
