Default Stuck at 63mph, what gives?

I can't seem to break this barrier anymore and I just don't understand. I've messed with the DAJ's and even switched back to some stock tires for a while, but with no luck. Now I know 63 isn't to bad, an no I don't think I'll try for 100, but in stock form I hit 68 on the flat. Could belt life be a player in this? I have 2100 miles on my belt and have been running no shim for a 1000 miles or so now. When I first removed the shim I still remember hitting 66mph one time. I don't know what it is, but it is starting to bug me. My mods are as follows If anybody has any thoughts on this one. By the way I'am running stock jetting with the DAJ's.

Crank, it is your black spring costing you those precious few MPH. That is the tradeoff of the black secondary spring. The theory is that you can overcome at least some of that loss by running the wider P700 belt with the black spring.
I did that a few weeks ago on my cousin's 02 P650 but we haven't had the chance to redo all out top speed runs. As an FYI, his would run 69 (on asphalt) bone stock with ~500 miles on it before the addition of the EPI black and P700 belt. He has had it to 60 and ran out of road but it was still pulling. I will report back once we can do some more top speed runs on asphalt.

Default Stuck at 63mph, what gives?

FYI: I installed the EPI black secondary spring on my P650 last summer and did timed runs at 100' and 300' on an asphalt road and also did top-speed runs over a 1/2 mile road. I found no signficant difference in acceleration times and absolutely no top-speed difference at all between the stock sec spring and the EPI black secondary spring. I decided to leave the black spring in b/c I agree with most folks who think the extra pressure exerted on the belt will lead to longer belt life.

CrankDog,
I would have to guess that getting a new belt would help you regain some of the top-speed loss. The reason I say that is b/c I installed a new P700 belt on my P650 when I had only 450 miles on my original OEM belt (I did this just to see if it improved top-speed). The result was that I gained 1 mph top-speed in high-range and 2 mph top-speed in low range. WHat is the key difference between the 650 belt and 700 belt...the P700 belt is a little bit wider. That tells me that as your belt wears down over time, it naturally gets more and more narrow and thus, the quad will naturally loss a little off the top-end as the belt wears down. Good luck to you.

Happy trails...

I lost alot of top end, as or when my secondary clutch went bad... just before I replaced it... & I agree with MIKEY... the belt width is crutial to top speed, & you have a ton of miles on your original belt...I'd guess that to be most if not all of the problem...

The belt will get longer also as well as thinner
Try the P700 belt.....you will most likely get that top end back

Shotgun,
Yes, I do have the cams retarded 20* from the stock location, just like Customfabandweld. May have done 10*, but I didn't want to screw with all the special equipment you need. I could only hit 61 before I did the cams, but picked up a little bit after doing them. I must say that I can't tell a huge difference, but pulls quite a bit harder from 40 to top speed then before.

Mine hit 69, no problem. There must be SOMETHING defferent between our 2 bikes to cause the MPH difference. Did you check the belt, yet?
