The purpose is to raise the needle out of the jet to richen the midrange . I believe it will also alter the transition point.

I am up to 152f-155r jets and is still a tad bit lean. do you think I should shim the needles. The air box is getting lots of air.

Where does it feel lean at? Have you read the plugs? Any noticeable stumbles, etc? You can get them at radio shack-.020

It runs perfect, and will do 72 mph 4000 ft. alt. The plugs are a cream to very light tan.

Or maybe no changes? Why do you think it's lean? The cream color? I have heard that ideal for general use is where you are at, then a touch richer for safety. Maybe the needle shim would do that.

Thank you very much for your help, I will do the shims tomorrow and see how it works. Do you think the 72 mph is a good speed for the way I have the mods for now.

I think 72 mph is real good! I am still working on my jetting- ordering more tomorrow-- taking out the Dynojet kit! Going to start with .020- 145-148.....Also 2 turns on pilot jet.. It's at 3 with D.J. kit. You are welcome. I have rec. much info here- just passin' it on.

I put the .020 shims on the needles today and it changed the plug color from cream color to light brown in the mid-range of the throttle. At least now it gives me the option to open up another 1 1/2" hole in the air box that i had closed off. I cut five holes in the air box so i could just tune my air flow by duct taping them off or leaving them open. I fastened 1/4" thick scrubbing pad material to the holes with thin-wall aluminum washers and pop rivits. The scrubbing pad is very pourous and allows air to pass freely. You dont have to oil them, just back-blow the dirt out with air pressure. I will post pics in my bio so you guy's can see how i did it.
