I have no decompression setup anymore due to upgraded cams. It makes little or no difference in starting difficulty.

Your right about the quad actually starting but that de-compression mechanism makes it a heck of lot easier to kick over. Can't imagine not having one.
Steve how does yours start hot and cold?
Thanks

Brad

i find that mine is a piky starter but if you get the choke and everything right it will kik first try. in cold choke all the way and no throttle. if its really cold like below zero. turn it over about three kiks slowly first to prime it. then one hard one. if its warm then no choke just kik. if its really warm no choke and sometimes you have to throttle it. the hardest starting condition is when its inbetween. usually no choke and throttle it but if you try choke and you dont here that shoonk shoonk compresion sound take it off and throttle it. oh and valves effect starting very much. it controls when air comes in and when exhaust goes out. this can effect total performance. make sure your camis is set right at either tdc or bdc when your adjusting.what ever it calls for.if you here misses or stumbles or hard starting its usually the valves.

Great description. Thats what I have been doing and your right. I had it running and it sat for about 1/2 hr and it was tough to start.
I'll be checking timing next, another new plug, new fuel filter for the heck of it and thats about it.
Cold start and a start warm start right after you shut it off is only a couple kicks.
Thanks again.

I don't know what cold is here. (Sacramento, CA) It's never below 25 F in winter, plus I use 0W-40 oil Last time I was in Alberta ice fishing it was a little colder than that.

I can never tell a difference without the decompression unit. When I upgraded my Mojave top end with valves, rockers cams, etc., the unit was removed. Greg @ CWR said I would not notice an appreciable difference. He was right.

Decompression - well perhaps my valves were just set too tight or something but I could stand on the kick starter (175 lbs) and it would easily hold my weight. Felt almost like it was hydro locked when trying to kick it over.
Thanks again for the feedback guys.

Anyone got any front stock rims for sale?
