Default dial a jets good, bad, indifferent?

I like my dial a jets,..... i installed them myself Screwed up the jetting so bad i wanted to just sell the p and buy a stock one. Paid a shop to hook my p up to a dyno and they jetted it down 2 full jet sizes from where i left off. (From my stock jets i was 3 full jet sizes down)

Since then, i have not adusted them at all (have them set in the middle setting) Rode from 4200 feet home to 13000 feet (hunting) But along with mikeyBoyesq i did notice better gas milage and crisper throttle responce.

To everyone thinking of installing them:

1 You have to jet down at least 1 full jet size on bolth carbs.
2 At least a 2 hr install maybe longer
3 Don't expect a major speed or handleing change..... some have better luck than others
4 Just as shotgun said " If you don't mod alot or ride at different alt. (alot) jet it right and leave it alone!!!
5 Don't get frustrated like i did!! Lonn and his wife are very helpful!!! (In my defense i am glad i had it hooked up to the dyno.... i don't think i ever would have got the jetting right.)

Good luck

Default dial a jets good, bad, indifferent?

I've now had my DAJs on for more than 6 months and I have not touched them at all once I got them installed and got the jetting right (I dropped 3 jet sizes on both carbs to get it to run right with DAJs). However, this summer I change out the air snorkel tubing to one size larger (to get a little more airflow into the DAJs).

If I had to do it over again, I think I would just skip the DAJs and shim the needles (or use the adjustable needles that comes in the Dynojet kit). I don't ride at different elevation changes and thus, I personally don't really see much benefit out of my DAJs (as compared to reshimming the stock needles or inserting Dynojet needles). I did notice a slight improvement in throttle response when I first installed them, but when I ride (or XC race) in dusty conditions, the regular air filter for the carbs gets clogged up and the carbs start to run richer as a result...accordingly, the throttle response improvement caused by the DAJs goes away until you are able to clean your regular air filter again. I never really saw a noticeable improvement in my gas mileage (maybe b/c I'm always on the throttle in my XC races!).

Yamihoo,
To answer your question above, I think it would be ok if you blocked off the fuel lines which go into the DAJ bodies...that should clear up your overly rich condition. But if I were you, I'd go ahead and change the main jets to 3 sizes below stock and see how that runs (check the plugs to make sure the a/f ratio is ok). Its cheap and quite easy to install the main jets and you already have the DAJs installed, so the hard part is over. Just my 2 cents.

Happy trails...

My neighbor has a KFX400. Anytime we got above 4500ft elevation the thing ran terrible! He put on a DAJ and has been very happy with it, no problems. His fuel milage did increase slightly.about 4 miles per tank.

His sister inlaw bought a Z-400 and had the same problems above 4500 ft as he did. She got a DAJ and is also very happy with it.

I just had the dealer install the holtzman attac system. It compensates for temperature and elevation.
