Default Tires for 99' Bayou 220 - why so rare?

I bought a used 1999 Bayou 220 at a cool price, partly because the tires are almost gone. I didn't think it would present a problem because I see atv tires for sale many places, and all different kinds. Only now have I discovered that they are mostly for the larger atv styles or sand machines. Not only can I hardly find any 21x8x9 or 22x10x10 tires, but they are never of the same tread type in both sizes, and always too freaking expensive. What gives? I thought Kawasaki sold a boatload of these Bayou 220s! There SHOULD be a good supply AND choice of rubber for them. I just want to get some replacement 489s for it. Why is that so hard?

Try Nebraska Tire. They had 489's for my 300 Bayou for $25 per tire plus 10 shipping. They were overstocks but brand new and I had them 2 days later. Great Service.

why is it important to run the same size tires, & matching tread ??? you would be much better served to use a tire that steers well like... Duro's HF244, in 21" X 8" X 9", ( by the way, they make a 22" X 11" X 10" in matching tread pattern ( $30 - $40 each ), or a Maxxis C9207, in 21" X 8" X 9", or a Kenda K284 in 21" X 8 X 9", or a Titan Fast trecker in 21" X 8" X 9" ( they also have a matching rear in size 22" X 11" X 10" @ $35 - $50 each ) IMO, any of these tires will make good front Tires... however we ran a set of 22" Interco TSL's in the rears, with extemely good luck...

Well, I'm new to all this, as this is my first quad, so maybe I'm just ignorant. But it seemed to me that I wanted to get some 489s for the drive wheels at least (as it is 2wd, of course), and I just figured it would look good and not steer any worse by having the fronts also be 489s of appropriate size. In the end, I'll put on the front whatever is available that gets the job done. But there still is not a good selection of 22x10x10 in various tread patterns. I've found a few acceptable ones in the last couple days. But I am NOT satisfied. It's as if the tire sellers think only guys who own bigger atvs are willing to spend money on quality accessories. I feel cheated!
