Default CDI Question?

I'm am thinking about getting one, but we have alot of steep rocky hill climes and I was just wondering if the CDI delivers controlable power? I don't want to be half way up the hill and the front end shoots up unexpectedly. Thanks for any info.

Default CDI Question?

You hafta give it full throttle to get outa control. No worries there, the power is controllable. You want it to keep the advance up so the engine does't generate as much heat while you are rock climbing. You will also get better fuel economy.

The only regret I have to the CDI is that you should only let experienced riders on it because of the reverse. If you don't get a firm grip and a stiff wrist, the reverse acceleration could cause you to nail the gas in reverse.

Most experienced riders are prepared for the reverse and are ready to get their thumb off. You should be fine. Don't let anyone under 21 operate your 650.

Default CDI Question?

Thanks for the info Nyroc, what do you mean by keeping the advance up? I bought my 650 two years ago and I love it, you and your web site had ALOT to do with that. Now that I got mine and a few of my friends took it for a ride there are quite a few p700's here on the ol' mountain. Thanks again Nyroc.

Default CDI Question?

The timing is retarded all across the RPM range. This contributes to increased engine heat and reduced fuel economy. The CDI fixes that.

This is the about the only thing I am seriously disappointed in Kawasaki for doing to us. I feel that the increased engine heat issue displays a blatant disregard for customer satisfaction. We all ride these things in dust and mud. We don't need anything working against us when our cooling systems aren't working to the best potential.

I hope they don't ever retard the engine timing again in their machines. That is stupid.

Default CDI Question?

The only thing stopping me from buying the new CDI
is the fact that my 02 is wired different than the 03 and 04
When I trade for a fresh unit the CDI would not fit my new one
I got the flywheel key and it does wonders...by far best bang for the buck

Default CDI Question?

You can sell one of those CDI's for almost what you paid for it on Ebay, or even here on the forum. If you have never used Ebay, you should cuz you can make a lot of spare cash selling stuff you don't need anymore. I used to pick up old riding mowers, snowblowers and tillers that were left at the side of the road on garbage day. They all were busted, but most were easily fixed. I paid for all kinds of projects using Ebay earnings. I bought tools, I bought DJ equipment, I bought steel to make a trailer - all with money I wouldn't have normally had on my low income.

I paid for my welding equipment using the Ebay earnings I got from junk I found on the side of the road. Now I can weld aluminum. I am going to remake my little trailer out of aluminum.

Get that CDI. Keep the old one. If you trade, just swap it back and sell the Dyna one. It will always be valuable.

Default CDI Question?

I was in the same boat as you kawakasi. I wasnt sure if I wanted to spend the money on the CDI when I couldnt take it with me if I traded. Also I had to install the degree key to get the full effect on an 02 model. Since you have the degree key already in place and since the module is around $90 cheaper AND you can take it with you to a P700 may be a wise choice. I dont have a degree key and dont want to fool with installing it when I can plug in the new CDI. Also, the P650 is paid for and I plan on keeping it even if I did buy another atv in 200?.

Default CDI Question?

So does the CDI not work properly on the 02 and therefor you need a timing key? I thought with the module you needed the timing key but the CDI did the trick without it...i just ordered the CDI for my 02 and just caught wind of this. If its true i am kinda dissappointed.

No you don't need the off set key with the CDI. The above post said he already had the key .....................

No you dont need a key. You probably do not want one. Some people are testing whether you gain anything from one or not.

I just tried my new CDI out in the parking lot. It idled faster, so I turned it down. I know for a fact that will contribute to cooling.

I couldn't feel the power yet. I am going riding with Kissofdeath today. I will know later.
