Default How to fix bead leaks.

I would normally post this in the tire section but I only go into the Kawasaki section in this forum to here goes.

I been on here quite some time now and I have never seen what Im about to post, posted so here goes.

If you have a bead leak and want an excellent way to fix it use clear silicone between the rim and tire. Just let all the air out of the tire and push down with one hand to separate the tire and wheel and insert the silicone between the rim and tire with the other. Let it sit overnight and check the air pressure.

Before posting this I took the ATRs mounted on C-Series for a 24 mile high speed ride that was hard and rough. The tires held up perfect and is still holding proper pressure so Im sure this technique works.

After getting my wheels powder coated for free both back wheels leaked air. One had 6 bead leaks on the outside and 3 on the inside. The silicone fixed it.

So, if you have a severe bead leak like I did try silicone.

i recommend duck tape. Be sure to get the high quality 3M stuff as the el'cheapo walmart brand will rot away pretty quickly

K.O.D. ... That is worth while to mention...I've done that before, but usually break the bead, & apply a small amount over the bead of the tire, & reseat the tire... I learned this trick back in the "old" jeepin days... It can help keep sand / dirt / mud, out of your beads when airing down truck tires... it should work even better for ATV tires...

WOLF... I'm sure either would work to an extent, but we are talking about silicone "caulk", rather than the lube... the lube would IMO, make it easier to spin the tire on the bead, while riding...

It is clear silicone caulk that you use in a caulking gun. I felt confident and pulled all the excess silicone from the outside of the tire bead. That was last Sunday and I have not leaked out any air. I think Im going to be good to go on my tires.
