Bayou 220 Brake lights????
#1
How do I get brake lights to work, i bought a 98 used and all the wires to the rear lights were cut....no idea why...Put them all back together and alls I get is tailights. Theres only two wires going to the tailight enclosure, I pulled the bulb and its a small number 67 single filament....... The back of the bike has three leads, black/yellow-grnd .... red-12v and a blue one that has no volts...the lights have a red and a black/yellow....I get tailights with ignition switch on if I connect the red and blk/yellow lights...What am I missing? Dont the bayous use brake lights?

If im reading the wiring diagram right, on the 98 the brake lights were an option. If yours has this option, you should hear a small "click" when you pull the front brake lever. My 300 has wires for brake lights as well, but no switch in the brke lever to turn them on. I imagine that Kawasaki used the same wiring harness for all of them and only added the switch for people who wanted it. If you need the lights that bad there are aftermarket companys who sell the switch by itself and you should be able to wire them up without too much trouble.

On page 646 of the new DK catalog in the lower left hand corner a new brake lever assembly that is drilled for the brake light switch. the assembly is 100.99 p/n 57-244 and the switch is 7.99 p/n 21-315. you may be able to tap your master cylinder to accept this switch if it doesnt already have a port for it that is plugged, i dont know if it does or not, im not terribly familiar with your exact setup. 100 bucks is too spendy for me for something like that so if it was me id hit up my local motorcycle junkyard and find me a master cylinder in good shape that already had the switch that i could make work on my bike but thats just me.
