Dial-A-Junk
#1
Well I’m done screwing with Dial-A-Junk. I’m tried of messing with the jets. I could have changed engines quicker then dialing in this thing. I had it working once and then a new mod and never got it to work right again. Just added a custom snorkel and needed to jet even smaller. I’m down to 132.5\134 and it still wants smaller jets. It cuts out and works better when the air box is cracked. Took the snorkel off because it was to restricting because of the way I built it and now of course I need to go back up. I really don’t think it’s worth all the effort. You could just change the jets and be done with it. I thought that this thing was suppose to compensate for adjustments. Every single change I have made I have had to change jets. It has not shown me that it can fill in the lean spots or help in any way. I know that somebody has this thing working but what I’m saying is it is not worth all the effort. Just change the jets your going to have to change them anyway.

Couldn't have said it better myself, Hard too throw $120 in the trash, but that is what I did.
Worked my $ss off to make those things work, and I am a fair Mechanic with good tools.
Dial-a-Jets may be easier to tune when they don't have to go in the airbox.

Hat eyou have had so much trouble. Mine seem to work fine. Only once my air snorkel to the dial a jet got crimped and wouldn't run over 35 mph, but besides that they have been trouble free. Better knock on some wood. LOL. If you want ot get rid if them let me know.
Davinator- How do you like your Supertrapp exhaust? I have been thinking about a new performance exhaust and I don't know what I want. Is it loud? Do you have to change the packing often? What happens if it get filled with water or mud?
Thanks,
Matt Garrett

I've never dealt with dial-a-jets. I've got my 650 dialed in so good right now I wouldn't screw it up by trying another carb mod. I'm running 145/148 keihin jets with a modded muffler, modded airbox, aftermarket airfilter and a modulator. With the 26" 589s, it's hard to keep the front wheels on the ground, and it runs like a top. You can't beat that.

I like the exhaust. It has a good deep tone it’s not much loader than stock. I wish I would have waited and sent them off to be coated. Just had to put them on. Money well spent.

I hate that you all are having problems. I knew from the beginning I didnt want anything to do with the dial-a-jet kit.

I purchased my machine used, and discovered a Dial A Jet installed. I was excited at first, now I'm suspicious its causing some inconsistent running conditions. Occasional bogging and speed variations. Its sluggish from 40+mph. Took of my air cleaner and there was literally a pool of gas in my box. So I guess I'm running pretty damn rich.
My top speed I've adjusted it some, it definately changes things, but my friends stock machine will pass me with ease at 40mph+.

FYI: I installed my DAJs about 2 months ago. Until I got the main jets lean enuf, I kept having lots of carb problems (mostly surging/stumbling at high speeds (30mph and up) and the presence of gas inside the airbox near the DAJs. I also had an occasional backfire after I let off of WOT. I finally got my DAJs to work properly by going down 3 sizes on the main jets and now I'm very happy with its peformance now.
That being said, I will definitely agree with the others above that it seems to take alot of work (retting and adjusting the DAJ settings) to get the carbs jetted right so that it runs properly with DAJs. I bought the DAJs with the hope that I wouldn't have to mess with the carbs too much and especially to avoid messing with shimming the needles. In hindsight, it seems to me that I would have had an easier time tuning the carbs without the DAJs.
For anyone else that may be trying to get their DAJs working properly, I did a few different timed tests and found the middle DAJ setting was always the best (so I won't fool with my DAJ settings anymore unless I go to a much different elevation). Also, I finally got my carbs jetted right by going down 3 sizes from stock on the main jets (now running 135rr/ 130 ft). This took lots of trial and error to discover the right size main jets (I tried stock jets, going down 2 sizes, 3 sizes and 4 sizes before I found the right size main jets).
