Check out this web site. Basically says that snowmobile use in Yellowstone was about to kill everybody due to the incredibly high levels of carbon monoxide. The snowmobiles were causing everyone to have headaches and all sorts of illnesses. Anyone with any common sense at all knows better. I thought some of you would get a kick out of it. Odd how only the Enviros get the headaches, and not the riders.

Check this one out, our 650's "pass all EPA standards" but they still say we pollute more than 15 vehicles. Call your dealer and he will tell you, it's in their book how we pass EPA's recomendations for crankcase and exhaust emissions.

The anti-atv people are using EPA's data in order to help get ATV's banned.

Check out the snowmoble data, 80 vehicles.

I would like to know what type of car they are comparing these to. I have seen cars rolling down the street pouring out smoke. Bet that isn't the car they used. Probably used a hybrid or something. Look at the type of riding is done on a quad or dirtbike. High rpm, typically. Comparing an engine running at 4000 rpm versus 2000 isn't really a fair comparison, either. From what I can gather, a typical Eiger, for example, is capable of getting about 15 mpg. That is about the same as an average pickup with a V8. Is it just me, or isn't pollution somewhat related to gas mileage? How can a quad get approximately the same mileage as an average vehicle, but put out 15 times the emissions? I would like to know the type of riding conditions used to experiment with the atv's as well.

By no means would I argue that a 2 stroke doesn't put out tons of emissions, but the numbers for all of those sees quite high to me.

They generalize and take it as if they were used and abused/old, taking into consideration of the older machines out there. Anything to make it seem worse than it is in my opinion. They don't say what they compare to but I am getting 20-25miles to the gallon in my 650 and she hasn't burnt one drop of oil yet, plus they are getting better and better. Their data is skewed and bias and should be shown as that in the news, this story should be told. Do cars not get used and abused too?

I am pissed, I am driving an environmentally approved ATV and still getting the heat of environmentalists. I am VERY environmental minded myself and have fought and will continue to fight major polluters. I do think two strokes have to go, I have a hard time following snowmobiles with their stinking smoke and they do give me a headache too.

Check out the pic in this link which I got from Eiger's and you know it's true blue, sorry, two strokes have to go.

blue smoke

I also think that most ATVers hate following a smoker even in an ATV, my Bayou was smoking under load, going up hills etc. I would always take the back to save peoples lungs and had the motor rebuilt so I wouldn't have to smell or spew it anymore. I hated the smoke and hate following smokers. I think most ATVers are the same, they want clean buring machines for we do follow each other fairly close at times. We want them too!

I think environmentalists are pushing us away when they should imbrace us as watchdogs. We are out there and we do love this earth we ride on.

EPA should be held to a higher account for their data which is used as fodder for anti-atvers which promote hate against us. Is is not against the law to promote hate and discrimination?

I feel I am being discriminated against and that the environmentalists hate me so much they want me shot.

We have to fight for our rights, we are under attack, we are being made out as evil destructionists of fragile eco-systems with chemical spewing, rut digging, evil machines and are HATED for it.

Sincerely, DOA

So we should ban all recreational vehicles because of the ones that pollute? I don't see anyone trying to ban ALL vehicles because of the 76 Pinto still cruising down the road that smokes like one of those old mosquito fogging trucks. Fine, ban the future production of any vehicle that won't meet emission standards. I don't have a problem with that at all.

I like how they lump together all recreational vehicles: "Most .........have 2 stroke engines"!!!!!!! The last time I checked, most quads did NOT have 2 stroke engines, but they are still thrown in as "other off road vehicles."
