Backfiring usually means lean mixture; if you've no air leaks (check carburetor hoses), turning the air mixture screw counter-clockwise a little on your Keihin CV carburetor might cure the hiccup.
While I don't believe any reader has ever consulted a reference I provided in a post, here goes (you can be first!): an article based upon maintaining the specific model carburetor (Keihin CVK32, I think) on your quad appears in the "Tech Tips" section accessible from the ATV Connection main page. You might find useful information there. Good luck!
What you always wanted to know about your Bayou carb but were afraid to ask!

Thanks there Tree farmer i just visited that site and found it do able. So ill give it a try and see what shakes out. I might add that it may be coincidental but i was trying to clean out the spark arrestor of any deposits, just for the heck of it i did what the manual said tapped a few times on the exhaust muffler to free carbon deposits then tried to pull out arrestor, well that thing has never been taken out so its seized apparently. So i discontinued that mission and decieied to run machine to blow out anything i could from muffler when this misfire at idle speed occurs. Also i was riding in a creek the previous day, never got water into air box or anything like that but was wondering if it had something to do with it. Thanks again,Scott
