Default Waterproofing a Warn 2.5

A friend of mine told me that his Warn 2500 winch said "Do Not Submerge". I will be buying this winch specifically for wet and muddy conditions, particularly creek riding. If I cannot get it wet as it is, can I silicon it or something? What should I do and how should I do it?

I think all the winches say that. My is underwater all the time. It has worked flawlessly every time I have needed it, even under water when I didn't have a choice. I would recommend this winch. I would also recommend ditching the wire cable and get some plasma rope. Mine is toast and it is only 6 months old.

Plasma rope? Is that the new "synthetic" rope? Where's the cheapest place to get it?
