Im curious why no one is using the Kawi brand synthetic oil. Price is a little higher but not that much when you consider the warrantee issues and the small amount used. I figure if I use all Kawi lubes there will be no questions about it being the right stuff if any warrantee problems occure. (again )

Tencubed,

Although the Suzuki Twin Peaks 700 is a rebadged Kawi, obviously it is sold and serviced as a Suzuki machine, by Suzuki dealers. The problem I ran into, is that my dealer only stocks conventional suzuki 10W-40, and I wanted to switch to a synthetic. I point blank asked them if the warranty will still be honored no questions asked if I switched to Mobil-1 synthetic 10W-30, and I was told there was no problem with this. As far as spending a little more on factory lubes, I see no point in it. I guess I may be a minority here, and a bit of a cheapskate, but I also don't see the point of spending $13 on a factory oil filter. This is why I have switched to Super Tech oil filters on my machine also. After checking a few online sources, these filters (Wal Mart) have a very good synthetic filter media, and cost under $2 each. I have been running them with no problems whatsoever. For anyone interested, the part numbers are ST 6607 (2.5" long, same as stock) and ST 7317 (3.25").

My two cents.

Any synthetic oil is going to be better than dino oil IMO. Everyone has their prefference of which one to use, just like some people like Chevy's some like Fords or Dodges. I've never tried Royal Purple but I hear it's a very good oil and have never heard anything bad about it. I used to swear by Mobil 1, used it for years then I started noticing the oil which had always been pretty much super clean up to the 3000 mile change started getting darker in color. Then I was surfing the web one day and found this article about how Mobil was bought out or merged (can't remember) by another company. Well anyway the article stated that Mobil 1 was now being manufactured with lower quality base stocks than it had been previously. Since I was still paying the same price for the stuff, if not more I decided to look to other synthetic oils instead of lining the pockets of some already rich persons who decided they could make more money by cutting their costs without letting anyone know. That's when I found Amsoil and their commitment to quality. They only use the finest basestocks available and they stand behind their product 100%. I use Amsoil in everything I own. I've noticed slightly better gas mileage in both my trucks and cooler running temps. I've got 5 atv's and use Amsoil in all of them. Chainsaw, blower, weedwacker all use Amsoil, their 2- stroke formulas are awesome! They've been in buisness for over 30 years if it wasn't top notch stuff they'd been history a long time ago.

PrairieRdr,

We are testing it in both diesel and gas trucks, so there are few weights. I'm going to be running it in my Yukon XL and will let you know how the testing goes with that one.

Peace,

Mobil was bought out by Exxon a few years back and filed a suit against Castrol on their syntec brand because it was still petro basestocks but they labeled it synthetic, Mobil lost the suit..... the court ruled that if the dino basestock was refined enough it could be called "synthetic" so to make a long story short Mobil 1 is now a highly refined petroleum base oil just like Castrol Syntec even though mobil may deny it, it is cheaper to make and more profit...but again it isn't true synthetic anymore.......base oil's are labeled 1-2-3-4 and 5 now...... 1 is the lowest grade,5 is the highest........most oil's are now group 3....Mobil 1, Castrol syntec are group 4 and Redline is rated 5 because of it's poyol ester basestock the highest grade basestock there is, it is the same oil that it used in jet turbine's on 747's and the space shuttle....I'm not sure where Amsoil rates from 1-5........

STAKK, great information! So Mobil 1 is not a pure synthetic just as I thought, cut costs, screw the customer! That's why people need to look into pure synthetics like Redline, Royal Purple and Amsoil.

garyvegas? I see you put up a link? Dont tell us thats yours?-lol Your not going to put up another post and tell us how great it is to sell also? Then push the vitamins on us are you?~LOL Im just messin!-lol and I use some of the Amsoil products. BUT I have a few buddys that use Mobil 1 along with Honda Etc. And I have used regular motor oils for years, in Motorcycles as well as a few Vintage vehichles with No Problems. The bottom line my friends no matter what you use, Keep your Oil clean and change along with the filter on a regular bases and you'll be Just Fine!

STAKK,I did some testing in Wisconsin a few years back when I was dynoing a very high performance 3 cyl 600cc snowmobile engine(2 stroke). This engine was making peak hp at 10,300 rpm's(163). All oils were at 40:1 premix with race fuel. The best results were acheived with redline . The company was PSI performance. At the time they were (and still are)an AMsoil dealer, but they now carry both. This particular motor used to start to curl up the front of pistons after about 40 passes on the drag strip. That increased to about 100 passes after switching to redline. I'm not saying anything at all negative towards amsoil,as it is probably better than many dino oils, but just that i was very impressed with redline. It is a bit more money though.

Good info Helix, As I said earlier, I have tried about every oil there is in my 650/700 and The Redline I bought at Advance Auto parts is the ONLY oil that I could actually tell a difference in how the motor acted, it rev's quicker, and run's alot cooler, and at $7.98 per quart is the same price the Mobil motorcycle oil's are at Autozone, Advance now sell's this Redline oil which is rated for diesel, auto, and motorcycle on the label, they have it from 5w-20 through 20w-50 and also have their gear oil and water wetter also, Redline made a believer out of me...........
