Default P650 hard starting

My 02 p650 has 830 miles and is hard to start for the first time of the day, after warming up it starts a little better. I checked plugs they where good do yall have any info that might help. Also after starting the engine it will make a knocking sound untill you hit the gas a little is this normal. I am running kawichem 20w50 dino oil in it now should I go a head and put Royal purple in it?

I was having the same problem, it would only start if I touched the throttle during startup. I went back and checked the valvelash and found it to be out of spec,The lash starts to close with time. Since resetting mine it starts using the choke only but just barely but I'll take it. I also found the choke plungers were not sycronized or not opening the same amount at any given point. I fixed this and it smoothed the idle after startup.

Try using 1/8 to 1/4 throttle, while cranking and see if that helps. if that doesnt do it,You may need to turn the mixture screws, out(richer) about 1/4 turn.

If you go on Nyroc's website the valve lash procedure is there. It's takes time but is not too hard to do. You won't regret doing it to know where your at with the setting. Also I found that you could do the front tappets without taking off the front plastic, just remove the left front tire and side panel behind the front tire. While apart check the radiator for and debris............Yunk

Thanks for the info your help is greatly appreciated I turned the mixture screw out about 1/4 turn on both carbs know it fires up on the first try. the only thing is that know it starts and idles a little low for about 1-2 sec then idles up to the normal speed. Is this normal?

A quick short, blip of the throttle should help get by the low idle. This probably happens with out the choke on?
