Default Tecate 4 Owners Help Me!!!

Well a few weeks ago I picked up a Tecate 4 for cheap. I've always wanted a project to fix up and now I have one. It's an '87 the frame has no cracks or welds, motor starts on first kick, and all bearings and bushings are tight. The plastics have no cracks and are barely scratched. I got her for $1350 I think I got a pretty good deal. So now I have me a project quad for winter. I decided though I would still tear it down and redo everything seeing as I don't know what kind of life it has led. I have a few questions though.

First off it does need resleeving so I decided I wanted to put a big bore in it. I want this bike to be something to walk away from almost everything else. My biggest competition up here are high comp, stock bore banshees with everything else on them. What I want to know is what are common bore sizes? Saying how a 400ex goes to 440 what would be the equivelant for the tecate?

Secondly what is the best of the best for these bikes. I ordered V-Force 2 reeds for it. I was told Klemm Research made the best exhaust, but don't know where to find one.

What is the stock gearing? Who makes aftermarket parts or sells them? Is there anywhere that sells OEM plastics? Is there anything I should upgrade now or address? This will be the first two-stoke besides banshees and blasters I've rode. I've built a couple banshees so I can work on it and it will be the first 250 2-stroke so I can't wait to ride this thing.

One last thing. I was thinking OEM green/blue plastics with powdercoated blue frame. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

That is a good price you got. I will look around for a site for the exhaust for you.

I would call greg at CWR. He builds tecates still and races one now. He has big bores and whatever you need, does good work and is a real nice guy. No web yet but phone is 717 637 1907

Great deal. Kleem Reserch pipes are no longer made. That is the pipe you need. It is awesome. Good Luck on your project. I enjoyed mine.

I'm going to be installing a KX250 top end on my T4 really soon and it requires a custom bent pipe. My engine builder had Power Pros make one for me. So I'll be pulling off my Klemm Research when I swap over. If you're still looking for one of these pipes then drop me a line. I'll either sell it or maybe we can make a parts trade. I have a T-4 and a Cannondale just like you! If you're interested either PM me or email me at tecate43@sbcglobal.net . Thanks!!
