Default air/fuel ratio gauge report

i installed an O2 sensor onto my quad just to see where im at. i got an air/fuel ratio gauge at autozone for $25, weld in bung from summit for $5 (i got 2 of them 1 for front, 1 for rear), and im using an O2 sensor from a 1992 GMC awd saffari van (w motor). it is a 3 wire O2 sensor $60 from autozone.

i have 3 lights for lean, 4 lights for ideal, 3 lights for rich.

with the mods i have listed below this was the result.

idle im running 1 light ideal/1 light rich.
1/4 to full throtle 1 to 2 lights rich.

i proped the front of my air box lid just to see what would happen.
idle was the same as above.
1/4 to full throtle it went from all the way lean to full rich the whole time.

i will play with the quad more tommorow, i think i will drop down a couple thou. on the needles, one size on the main. i have the O2 sensor installed on the rear pipe 4" away from the head. i will install an O2 sensor on the front pipe in time and run both of them through a 3-way toggle switch to the same air/fuel ratio gauge. i would be able to look at both the front and rear with the same gauge with just a flip of the switch.

i just though someone might want to know.
i have pictures to show you the install but i cant figure out my new camera

Thats great. Keep us posted on how you do and what you find out. Jetting these V twins can be very tricky.

Default air/fuel ratio gauge report

the pictures are up.

i didnt do anything to the carbs yet. i drilled 5- 3/8" holes into the air box lid to see what happened, and this is what i got so far.

idle was the same as above.
1/4 to WOT i had 1 ideal and 1 rich light.

mph has'nt changed. i will order a twinair air filter this week, dont want to change carbs till then.

i will try some more holes, maybe. i did find a fix if you dont want to run with holes after you drilled them. (ear plugs) i have them in the pictures as well.

Default air/fuel ratio gauge report

well i got the twin air filter & seen ABSOLUTELY NO CHANGE on the gauge. it might keep more dirt out, but it didnt flow any better. i went and got some #4 & 6 washers again. im going to have to remove some material to get them thinner for the needles. by the way #4 & #6 brass washers .025 thick were as a #6 nylon washer is .033 thick. in the morning i will dig into the carbs, drop down on the needles and 1 jets size on the mains.

Default air/fuel ratio gauge report

Hey deerchopper---This is a great plan you got going here---seems odd that the motor is running rich with the airbox lid removed??????? Should theoretically be running lean! My 360 runs like crap with the lid removed---I have a slide valve also in the top of my lid that i installed and bike runs like crap if i open it up even a little--I even tried running with the airbox intact and the snorkel removed and it doesnt run good---runs the best and best top speed with the lid on tight and stock snorkle---go figure--- I also have noticed no difference between the stock air filter and the twin air---runs the same with either---
Why did you pick the 02 sensor from the GMC van??????
Do you think you are restricting any exhaust with the sensor installed?????????
How far does the sensor extend into the pipe???????
Can you give some more detail on the weld in bung???is it for an 02 sensor????

Default air/fuel ratio gauge report

oleman.. i havent tryed with the lid off yet, i just proped the front of it up.

O2 sensor.. a while back their was talk about this gauge. they said a 3 wire O2 sensor was the one you wanted because its heated, a single wire O2 sensor has to be heated from your ehaust where as it would take longer to start working. the reason i picked a GMC sensor when my wifes van sensor goes bad i can rob it off the prairie, and its a three wire sensor.

when i was installing the bung and O2 sensor. i was looking at the length of the O2, looked a little long. so i took a peice of 3/4" black pipe and shimmed it up a 1/2". with this combo the O2 tip hangs into the ehaust about 5/16". i dont think that would hurt anything.

the bung is made for an O2 sensor. summit carries them for racers who wants to put them on their cars. i called around here just to see if anybody carried them, NAPA was the only one i found that could get it. i should have tried some muffler shops.

im going out to the garage know report back later with my finding.

Default air/fuel ratio gauge report

well i went all over the place today and couldnt find any smaller (thickness) washers for the pilots. John my hobby store closed. i put in the brass #4 washers that are .025" thick, no change on my gauge. adjusted the pilot screews and it is running on the 1st light & second light flickers on the rich side.

installed the 145f/147.5r jets. after half throtle i have 2 lights in the ideal and 1 light in the rich. i think i will leave there, but i could go down one more to see what happens.

i took off my lid to see what haappens as well, just in my garage. idle was 1 light in the ideal zone, close to rich. 1/4 and up it was about the same as the test i did after the smaller jet change i did today.

mid range seamed very strong
