If you start to slow down in the mud use the diff lock. Thats what it's for.
I have a 650 but I always use low in the mud or any time I'm riding slow. It's better on the belt.

Gotta disagree again--you dont want to pull the diff lock in the middle of a mud puddle with the wheels spinning---bad bad bad
the impact will surely break something---i would hold that diff lock on the whole time--ROCK AND ROLL

You can pull the diff lock at any speed or with the wheels spinning. That’s what it is made for. It is not like meshing gears or a mechanism that locks together. they are plates that work using friction. You can even feather it if you want.
Just a warning, I don't recommend doing it at fast speed or when spinning tires fast on a dry surface.(like a hill climb) When that tire does start pulling it can cause you to lose control.

All of this is assuming it is the same as a 650.
