You also need to adjust your mixture screws, I start at 2 1/2 turns out, then adjust them while at idle. That could be your problem.

Yeah, I have genuine jets. After 3 trips across town, I got the right ones. At one shop, the guy gave me the long hex type jets and said they would work. Well after I got home and pulled the bowls off, I was a little pis$ed off.

I'm currently at 2.5 turns out. I will have to reshim and open up the air box a little more. Hope to get it right by the weekend trip to the dunes.

Heathen you should of tried running lean with the jets going 5 down from stock i promise you will like it , but you have to run it with the airbox on.

What do you mean by retapering? How did you do it? What is shape now compared to original needles?

I put the 160's in and shimmed the needles .020, and 2.5 turns on the mixture screws. Modded the air box as specified by others: ran like dung. Reshimmed to .030-same ****. Took out shims, ran same as before. Put the
stock jets back in, went 1.5 on mixture screws and patched up the air box. Took 'er for a peel and it ran doggy as hell from about 1 mph to 15 mph then took off after that. As long as I'm over 15 mph the sombit*h runs great. The only thing I can think of that would cause my current condition is the needle spring retainer blocking the hole in the diaphram. As for the jetting, they say leaner is meaner. But I say fatten the **** up. At any rate, I still have some experimenting to do, but I'm not doing it tomorrow, I'm going to the dunes.
