Default brute vs grizz

Wardawg270, thanks for the comment on the website. I had help setting it up as Im not nearly smart enough to do it on my own but thanks again.

That altitude is pretty high. You can try it with stock jetting "138 in front and 142 in back" and see how it does. More than likely it will be running rich especially around the 8000' mark. If it seems to want to stumble and smoke some you should purchase a 132 stock main jet and put it in the front and move the 138 to the back. This should lean it out some to compensate for the lack of air molecules at the higher elevation. You could also install a different primary spring to raise the rpms just a tad to help with the take off. OR maybe some spacers behind the stock spring would be cheaper. If you decide to go the spring route I highly recommend the Dalton Plain/white.

Also, installing the main jets on the Prairie is very very simple with nothing to be removed. You can lay down on your side "or get the atv in the air" and get to the float bowl screws from the right side of the atv. Check out nyrocs website. He has excellent pictures that show the carb float bowl screws and the main jets.

On the topic, I ride with a guy that has an 02 Grizzly and I love it. I always ride it. It's tippy as reported, but overall I think it's one of the best available. I have a Brute Force. I have owned both the P650 and the P700. You should, as Andy Bassham noted, view the BF as a Grizzly on steroids minus much of the tippiness. You can't go wrong with either one you choose. If I were to rank the current big bores out, I would rank the Grizz third behind the BF and the P700, with those two in no particular order.

I just put a set of ATR's (thanks to KOD, NYROC's website and others for your input on the balancing problems) on my BF and the difference is night and day. It handles MUCH better now. It feels like a different machine. I need a second quad. I was considering a KQ700 or a SP800. After MUCH thought, I think I'm going to get another P700. The KQ looks to be very competitive, but I already have a IRS quad in the BF. I also can't get past the fact that it is a single. The SP800 looks the best out of all of them but it's too heavy for my liking. There's simply nothing out there that beats the V-Twin. In my OPINION, Kawasaki has the best line up for everyone in the P700 and the BF. If I had to do it all over again, and I had to chose between the BF and the P700, I simply don't know which one I would choose.

Nice reply thesitv2, I just picked up my Brute today {a red one} and it has been to hot hear to ride. I just relocated to California and the deserts are 118 degrees right now. I will be putting the c-series and atrs from my 04 Grizzly onto the Brute and then the Grizzly will be up for sale. I cant wait for cooler weather!

Thanks for having my back KOD. I like yer site too. If you can't have at least a little fun on this site, what the heck are you doin' here. KOD that Mt. Dew can was askin' for it, look at how it's dressed. I have read a bizziolion threads on here before I joined. This site was a HUGE influence on me getting my new Grizz. and has helped me lots on working on the BR. Now, obviosely, the Grizz will not beat a quad with 100 more cc's. DER. That's sort of a no-brainer, kinda like someone with no sence of humor. I give ppl crap all the time, and they give it right back. That's the fun part, friendly joshing. Kinda like you do with riding buddies. (if you have any that is). Anyways, GOD BLESS and have fun, riding, readin, or writing. Always have fun, no matter what you are doin'. Life is too short

Picked up my Camo Brute friday. Finally had a chance to ride it today.Lets just say it's like the time I had A new 94 Jeep Wrangler and fixed it up for off road-in.Then 6 months later the dealer for my ordered Defender 90 called and said it was in.The jeep has a new owner because the Defender 90 does everything the jeep did but sooooo easy its scary! Same as the Brute! Only thing I don't like is the Dunlop tires.Where would you get ATR's and will they fit on the stock rims?

I really wish I had a chance to ride a BF and a Grizz back to back. One day I want an IRS then I don't.We just got back from a trip to Hatfield/McCoy where we rode the new Pinnicle creek trails. We were coming out for lunch and as usual I was leading. There is a guy that has a grizz with C series wheels and Mudlites.Toward the end of the trail he came rushing up to the front to kinda challenge me ( or bug me lol) I picked it up....he picked it up and then it was on.Right before you get to the trailhead there is a slight bend to the left and I was on the inside. He just flat out could not make the turn. The left rear came up.....he corrected then came the most amazing crash I have seen involving an ATV.I had no trouble making the turn and I know this is not apples to apples but I am not sure I could live with something that turns that poorly. If the BF is like that at all I am not sure thats the bike for me.In one of the mags they basically trashed it for it's poor handling. They even stated it had TOO much power.....I was not sure that was possible
BTW....I was disappointed in that trail system and as far as I am concerned it has no black trails if that is what you are in to.

I don't see how you can say the Grizzly has poor handling.

I mean, there isn't some great Porsche vs. Volkswagon Beetle difference between a Grizzly and other quads. The Grizzly is in fact better than most every other quad other than the P650 in that reguard. And you talk about it being down on power. It damn near is as fast as the P650, and has been known to beat it from time to time.

The difference is a very small margin and you make it out to be like a landslide or something. The Prairie 650 makes like 1more hp than the Grizzly at the crank. It beats it by maybe 3 quad lengths in a drag and it gets all of that off the first 20 yards and never gains again.

Prairie isn't god. Vtwin stock isn't the greatest invention known to man, and most Prairie owners live in their own self created reality it seems.
