Default Motor kills/ Hard to restart on '03 360 prairie

Hi there-
I was wondering if anyone else is having problems. My girlfriends machine, (almost) whenever she comes to a stop, the motor kills like out of fuel. I've seen the other posts about exhaust heat and vapor lock etc. The only thing is it didn't happen last summer and it happens when the machine is cold (sitting 8+ hrs.).
I'm wondering 2 things... 1. Anyone have any problems sucking air between the carb and cylinder? Would that cause these symptoms? The boot seems loose and maybe cracked. 2. What are the 2 wires for that lead to the carb bowl? and where is the air/fuel adj. screw? I'll take any tech advise on this matter I can get. TIA

How is the idle? is it up high enough? the Air/Fuel mixture screw is right under the carb, you need a real small screw driver to adjust it, I use a comman screw driver bit, or you could loosen the carb & swing it around, that would make it easier to get to. Try to richen it up & see if that helps. More then likely if it's doing it while cold only, it is your valve's that need adjusting generally exhaust valve, very common problem on the 360.

Yea, I would go ahead and check the valve clearance. Always, set it to a looser side of the spec. It might be too tight by now after a year of use.
How is the cranking speed when starting engine with a fully charged battery? I just want to make sure nothing is seizing at the bottom.

Ours did that at first and I just turned up the idle a tad and it went away. It might need a valve adjustment - after I did ours it started and idled way better than before.

Those 360s vapor lock like a yamaha, you might try heat wrap/shield to keep the tank and carb from getting quite so warm.

your right Nyroc, but I think that generally happens after it has run a bit & then you start it back up & it will hessitate for a few seconds, at least that's what mine DID.. Still would be a good idea to prevent that from happening

Like Uinthas said, the exhaust valve is too tight - I've seen it more when the machines are hot than cold (valves get even tighter when hot). Look no further; you can take that one to the bank.

Default Motor kills/ Hard to restart on '03 360 prairie

Hey Guys, Thanks much for all the support!
I picked up some header wrap today and am gonna do that right now. I've tried adjusting the idle, with no luck. I'm interested to see what happens when I adjust the air/fuel a little. As far as adjusting valves, I've got a service manual on order for correct procedure/ specs. I'll try that next week.
Can someone tell me what the 2 wires are for on the float bowl? I'm just curious.
And what about the belt light reset procedure? Is it similiar to the 650? as far as swapping black/grey plugs? I haven't noticed any performance deterioration since the light came on.

The 2 wires are for the carb heater, the pilot screw is underneath the carb. Save yourself some time and adjust the valves first.

If the rubber piece between the carb and cylinder is loose or cracked, it needs to be tightened or replaced. If its leaking, it would cause problems like youre having.
