Default man o man..tonight was a bad night for the 700.need some help...

my bro. in law (blur27) had one hell of a night tonight..after a bumper bender with another quad we were on our way home from the trail going about 60-ish and all of a sudden...**poof**..big big cloud of white-grey smoke and the motor bogs then totally dies out...after i towed him home were started it back up....and after all of 2 seconds it was blowing smoke like a chimney from the muffler...no weird noise or anything tho..so im not sure what let loose..maybe a ring went? or something in the head but i dunno...any ideas out there?.....the real kicker is that it is exactly 1 week old..damn near to the hour tonight...and it just had its after break in service done earlier today...
barely 300 miles and about 30 hours when it let go....luckily warranty should have it coverd so i aint gonna have to go into it....i hope.

Sounds like maybe a gasket let loose? Is there any water in the oil? Low on coolant?

Had the same problem with my 650 Prairie. Its sort of funny. I changed the oil and had put too much in and it backed up threw the vent into the airbox and into the carbs. pull the lid off and look and see if its all oily inside the airbox. hope this is the answer because its a simple fix.

yep, Oil came up the crankcase vent. Oil overfull or excessive blowby.

Do a search, lots of ideas on fixes.

yep... common problem... the oil should not be to the top full mark, but 1/2 way inbetween... if there is oil in your filter box, then this is the problem ( which is no big deal )... if the filter box is dry, then possibly burning water... but 99.9% of the time, it is the oil thing...

Kawasaki denies this problem exists, to the level of accusing me of pouring oil into my air cleaner. THe smoke has something to do with the location of the breather tube. I spoke with a shop that is installing the FST800 kit, and they have a fix for it. I don't have the shop's name handy, but I think they work closely with Dalton. Look in the forum for a shop that is dynoing 85 horsepower on the vforce, and you will have the guy with this fix.

Good luck
