Default Swingarm bearings are history

After 1740 miles the swingarm bearings are shot. As bad as they were its a wonder they werent making any noise. Right now Im at the race removal. Im haveing a little trouble with those and got tired and called it a night. If anyone has removed these in the P650 swingarm what did you use? I will have pictures up maybe tomorrow just depends on how I feel. I will have them up for sure when I get the job done.

I just replaced swingarm boot and I noticed mine were rusty, like they never had much grease in them from the factory, the races come out easy with a socket and long extension from the back side.Just compare the socket to your new race to make sure it isn't to big or small then hammer it out.I had to put the extension in and then snap the socket on through the drive shaft hole.It won't fit through the side hole with socket on.hope that helps you out some.

If you have time during the install could you get a measurment with a feeler gauge of how much room there is between the swing arm and frame boss? You can have the pins installed but not tight and push the arm to one side and possibly use a feeler gauge?
If there is a way to see how far the pins protrude (if any) past the bottom of the race, that would be good also.
We use some really tough plastic shim stock at work. I'm hoping there is better than .010 play inside the frame mounting bosses and the pins do not poke out more than the bearing race bottom lands. Then I could use .005 shim stock behind the races to act as a grease seal or retainer.

therock, I will try to remember to check that for you.

I tried the socket trick as I have used that before on races but I dont have one the right size. I also dont have the races or anything else yet to go back in. I just started this last night around 9pm. I will have to take a race measurement with my mic and size up a socket to buy today to use just for this.

You know Kawrider I think thats the biggest problem...not much to start with.I spoke to KAWTECH and he said the three he serviced (2 of his own and 1 friends) had almost nothing. On was almost new when he checked them.
Kiss,I have not removed them on a 650 but in the past I have used a large flat washer that fits the race the then hammered them thru with something.....maybe even a socket then.
This is the first you have checked them??? I have 1100 miles and am beginning to wonder if I should do mine...

I finally got them out. I separated the two halfs and removed the brake disk. It made it a lot easier. I found a 24mm 1/2" socket that barely fit and used a breaker bar I had for an extension. On one race I had to put duct tape on the socket because the first two times I drove it through the race. That race must have been worn a lot more than the others.

Im going to see if I can find some cheap bearings and races at a bearing store in town. The dealer wants $17.99 each and ron ayers is $17.?? also. Im still going to replace everything new so I will still have to order the parts and be down until they come in. My total bill "not including bearings/races will be around $18.00

Allballs might be able to fedex them overnight and you could still ride on the weekend.

Make sure you also have disassembled your rear diff and clean it because you may find you need axles seals (if you feel dirt got that far).

Allballs has the rear axle seals. That is where I got mine.

I called and talked to Kevin at allballs. Their kit is $29 shipped and includes 2 bearings/races and the rubber cups. It doesnt include the O-rings or the metal colar that goes between the swingarm and frame.

Im going to leave the axle in. The disk brake pads look fine with very little grit. I would like to replace the bearing and rubber seal that the drive shaft from the rear runs through but Im tried of fighting it. I have done everything needed and its all clean and ready to be put back together. I can get new o-rings at a local hardware store, Im going to re-evaluate the metal colars and see if I can salvage them with a good cleaning.

nyroc, I wont be riding Monday anyway. Susie has that day off and she said she wanted us to do something together. We may go watch a movie and go out to eat or something. I know you want to ride and I would love to ride also but I have to comprimise with the wife and family sometimes. You are welcome to come with us though.
