Default 4.99% Good Times Credit - A good deal? BF okay?

Well after selling my p650 and taking an involuntary vow of poverty for about the last 2 years I'm back and looking for a new ride. I made the mistake of visiting my local dealer while the car was next door being serviced and what do you know, Kawi has a new IRS 750 twin!! I loved my Prairie 650 and so the new Kawi seems like just the thing for me.

Kawasaki is offering 4.99% for 2 years with $49 payments, 6.99% after that with 2.5% minimum payment. This seems like a good deal, especially compared to some of the other "offers" right now. It's only available through the 30th of September so I'd have to jump on it pretty quick. The dealer has at least 3 Brute Forces to choose from (one of each color but no camo). What do you think? Should I wait until next spring/summer, and hope that the price comes down, or should I jump on this now? They're asking $7500 +$95 doc fee, I don't know how this compares to other dealers in the area but they may come down a bit.

I'm not entirely sold on the Brute Force yet, in fact, and don't think less of me for this but, I was almost talked into buying a Polaris 700. I don't even like Polaris. The SP700 was pretty nice though, it rode smoother than the BF and had nowhere near as much body roll.

The first thing I noticed about the BF is that it is way tippy. Tippy probably isn't really an accurate description, I think it's a perception more than the actual condition. To ride it feels like you're on one of those playground toys, you know, the horse that's anchored to the ground by a big coil spring. As you ride around the wheels stay on the ground but the rider bobs back and forth. This if probably partly the nature of IRS but like I said the Polaris wasn't half as bad as the Kawi.

The next thing about the BF... ...it gets up and goes! I mean it really scoots, my 650 was plenty fast but, I'm tellin' ya, this thing flat moves. The Sportsman was pretty fast but not even close to the BF.

The only other option I can see would be the new King Quad but I'm not nearly as jazzed up about it as most people seem to be. To me it looks like a big bore Vinson, and I'm very skeptical about the 700 thumper. The one thing it has is the fuel injection but that could go either way.

The BF reminded me of some things I didn't like about my 650; delay getting into/out of 4x4, that weird motor sound every time you start/stop, the funky smell, etc. But I think the bad stuff is offset by the good; like the grab and go diff lock which I used quit a bit busting trail through the snow drifts in the spring, and the V-twin is an awesome engine.

I think Kawasaki is on the right track the Brute Force is a good looking quad and "Brute Force" sounds way tuffer than "Prairie", I just wish they could have picked something that would avoid the unfortunate "BF" acronym.. ...oh well, at least they're getting better. And here's another thing that really bothers me, they are still putting the same crappy dunlop tires on the BF which means I have to spend $200 on tires before I drive it off the lot. >

the HRS crdit card thro Kawasaki is a SCAM! they offer you some fixed rate(mine was 7.5%) for the life of the loan, only to use a clause on the back of the agreement to crank up the apr to 16.9 AT THERE DISCREATION WITH NO PRIOR WARNING>>read the back of the agreement carefully..it is there in writing and THEY WILL F^&K you with it..even tho it clearly says "for the life of the loan" on the top paragraph ,nestled down deep they reserve the right to "adjust" the apr at there whim!!!..steer clear of HRS..get a loan thru your bank or you will regret the choice..the way the HRS credit card works is you WILL NEVER pay off there debt.."you'll be SOOORRRYY" I know I was!!! OH and the kingquad 700 is a rebadged prairie 700..identical in all aspects but a color sheme and slightly redisigned racks...i rode with one this weekend..there are one and the same machine.

Hmmm, that's a bummer about the credit card. Did you miss a payment or anything, or did they just hike the interest up?

The Suzuki you rode was probably the TwinPeaks. The King Quad isn't out yet and looks more like a Vinson than a Prairie, it's a 700 single with IRS.

Thanks.

Hmmm I have the good times credit, I haven't had a problem yet . I make sure I pay my payment weeks ahead of time and I pay more than the $49. If they try to screw me I'll refinance it with my credit union, and it will be their loss

I just purchased a BF the other night but haven't brought it home yet due to the recall,, Anyway I did the $49 mo payments, figured I'd pay more when I can and just try to pay it off with in 2 yrs. before they jack up the rate. $7500 + $95 doc fee's sounds high to me but not sure where you are.. MSRP is $7599. I called around to several different dealers and found one who would come down from MSRP.. I paid $6998 + 99 for a so called freight charge.. All other dealers were selling at MSRP. Also got a Warn 2.5 winch for $69 as part of the Promo that Kawasaki is offereing,, I can't wait till I can bring it home... Just courious what size tires are some of use running,, I want to put a set of mud lites on the factory rims but not sure if I want to go with a larger tire or keep the stock size,,,I'm new to this fourm and I hope I did this correctly,,, thanks matt

Well Matt here's the deal, the remainder of the cost on the $69 dollar winch is built into the MSRP of the bike. I have a friend that works at the local dealership and he explained this to me. If you read the disclaimer it says for participating dealers, this means if they want to do the winch deal they can or they can refuse and offer you there best bottom line price. Sometimes they are forced to offer it especially with Yamaha. Yamaha does not give them the option. So it will be built into the cost. If you paid $7000 or les you did pretty good. And the credit issue is a bad way to go unless you are really good at making payments. Don't be late. I think the brute force is an awsome machine I've owned 10 differant quads and this one really seems to fit any type of riding I like to do. I am going to add ATR radials next spring and possibly 589s this winter and I have a Dyna CDI on the way already this thing is a blast to ride. Good luck

thanks for the reply (nighthunter).. I think I got a good deal. total with winch was $7166 plus tax of course.. Hopefully HRS doesn't screw me. My understaning was if your late or miss a payment then they hit you hard.. My wife used HRS when buying her Kawasaki street bike many years ago and we didn't have any trouble.. Only time will tell.. If they give me a hard time then I pay them off,, there lost,,, I hope they have it ready for the weekend for me other wise won't be picking it up till next week.. I was so dissapointed when I couldn't take it home,, We had wheeled it out and was getting ready to load it in my truck when the service manager said they just got the recall and it had to stay...This is my first 4x4 ATV, been ridding dual sport Suzuki motorcycles for a while and had an old quad racer many years ago.. I can't wait to get this new beast on in the woods..

I'm glad that I jumped at the 3.9% for 36 months that ended in July. Just make sure you always make you payments on time and that you pay it off by the end of the promotion. Otherwise, they will stick it to you! I just divided the total cost financed + a couple hundred for interest by 36 payments and that's what I pay every month. That way it's payed off before the 3.9% deal runs out.
