Prairie 360 update
#1
Another good one--went on a poker run yesterday--I tagged a P650 and a Honda Rincon all day---kept right on them--The 360 is more than adequate for woods running if anybody is basing buying one on that perspective---Also had a kid on a stock 360P --no mods---tagging my butt all day--couldnt shake him---at the end of the run I drag raced him in the parking lot both in high range and low range--took him on the holeshot every time and beat him by about 10-15 quad lengths every race.
This kid weighed no more than 150lbs if even that--I weigh 200.
This confirms to me about the carb mods--read this thread--- http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/sho...25/Main/970019
This is the same carb as the 360
But no matter---in real world riding (lots of mud due to rain) The big bikes couldnt shake me nor could I shake the stock 360.
Love my 360!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Kartmann---would love to walk you through it---take a look at the links i provided---i am going to try and locate this carb at a reasonable price---If I were going to buy a kit, it would have to be the dyno jet---but dont have any facts on that--consider swapping carbs, or do the needle jet shim and drill out the hole like I did----WANNA RACE??????

I really want to try your new found mods, but I'm really hesitant about drilling a hole in my carb! plus you ride at a far different elevation then I. Do you know exactly how drilling this hole improved performance?? What were the spec's on your needle shim??

hey uinthas
not sure what you mean by what are my specs on the needle?? I have shims measuring .060 lifting the needle up if thats what you mean--this mod gave me a lot of ability to rooster tail around turns and a general midrange boost---the drilling of the hole on the slide gave me a lot more pep and quicker throttle response-- almost feels like it could wheelie, but just not enough power. I would bet a small person or kid leaning on back could wheelie it---i think i'm too old--almost pulled my arms outta their sockets last time i tried. Drilling the vacuum hole larger should allow the slide to open quicker---I tried this earlier by shortening the spring on the top of the slide, In order to open it quicker, but for some reason it ran worse. Take a look at the links I provided. These guys have the same carb that we are running. The best way to explain it is if you ever played with a motorcycle carb, the slide is connected to the throttle cable and opens instantly when you nail it. Our slide is lifted by vacuum rushing through the carb---hence the momentary lag when nailing it.
I figured when i did it that if it ran worse, i would JB Weld the hole and redrill it smaller---but I am actually considering drilling it slightly larger.
But then again, why mess with perfection??
let me know

where would a guy pick up the .60 shim?? dealer?? I did read your links, & understand more what you say more then what they have to say.. Guess I understand better (not very knowledgeable with carbs) so bascially it gives you a more responsive throttle right?

Hey Uinthas
Right about the throttle response---even if you dont drill the vacuum, you should shim the needle--this has been my best and cheapest mod yet---the shims are just small brass washers that I purchased at Lowes---some of the guys on this site suggesting buying them also at Radio shack--do a search on this site for needle shims--I bought brass ones so i could file them easily to the size i wanted--you would also need a micrometer to measure them---i know it sounds complicated, but once you get in there it is not---the other alternative is the dyno jet kit---seems like there are some good reports on it also--The only thing i know about the dyno kits is for our quads it is only available in a stage 1 kit---this means its for either no mods or slight mods(muffler, air filter)
The dyno kit for the klx 300 dirt bike is a stage 2 kit(for a more modded engine) The stage 2 kit is the one that comes with a drill bit to drill the vacuum hole out. Like I say, i was taking a chance drilling this hole, but figured I would somehow fix it if it didnt work.
