Prairie 360 update

Moose, I tried the shim tonight, but I dont have a microguage. 1st one I tried the bike would barely run, had to keep the throttle on just to keep it going & was lots of white smoke.. then I put in a shim that was slightly smaller, bike seams to run fine, but unfortunetly I'm in a neighborhood where I cant ride (police come if I ride around) so I wont know for sure until I go riding somewhere. I just drive it around in my drive way & up the road real fast, I havn't felt any hesitation or anything, I wonder if it's okay, any suggestions on testing it??
Also did you gain power in the low or mid end?? did you loose any power on the top end?? I'm concerned I might actually loose power because of my elevation?

Hey OMM
I see you found the KLX websites.
Good to hear it works well on the 360.
I got the HMF slip on for the wifes today, so I'm gonna try some carb tuning and see what happens this weekend.
She don't really care if it runs better, she just wanted it louder. Long as she's happy I get to buy goodies.
Good lookin pipe and sounds dang nice too.
I'll have to do the nyroc mod on mine as I can't exactly put a brushed aluminum pipe on a camo 360.
Just plain tacky.
Good thing about having two 360s, got two bikes to test stuff on.

Hey Uinthas---I have tried all sizes of shims under my needle from nothing up to .080---in .010 increments and I never experienced any bad running or smoke????? When I shimmed over .060 there is a definite lack of pickup when trying to roostertale around a turn .
You oughta borrow or buy a micrometer --they are relatively cheap and once you get one, they are really E-Z to use.
I dont think you can just guess at the shim size---It was noted to me before that the Dynojet needle is .070 shorter than our stock needle, which leads me to believe the .060 to .070 range is pretty close.
When i was playing with the shims i removed gas tank cover for about 2-weeks as i was constantly pulling tanks off to get to shims. You also dont need the gas tank bolts at this point because when you test ride the seat will hold the tank in place.
The shims definitly improved pickup when getting on the throttle--didnt effect top end at all---kinda hard to describe--helped general drivability---I dont think you would notice any difference at all if you are just putting around---it really shine though when riding aggressively---Not night and day---just much better pull from engine

where would I get the micrometer, I have only seen my dealer with one, just a parts store I guess?? I would be very surprised if I was taller then .60, but I'ld like to find out for sure.. I thought it was quite odd when I put in the 1st shim it ran fine for 2 mins then just couldnt even run. I have left everything apart so I can acess the carb easy (pain to keep getting in there) but I'm going riding tomarow so I'll have to get it put back together, guess I'll just bring some tools should I have to remove it.. Wish I had a strip to test things out, sucks to have to drive 25 miles just to take it for a spin, that's why I hessitate at trying things out because I have no way of test them. Consider yourself lucky!! thanks for your input
P.S. if you ever get a chance, post a picture of your spark plug, I'd like to compare with mine, I'm amazed your able to get away with that 150 jet being I'm 148 & remembe when I went to 145 there was a definate lean condition at 8000 ft...

hey Uinthas
I can pull my plug, but for comparison, are you pulling yours after shutting off engine from a full throttle run????
If i need to--pm your mailing address and i will mic and send you the shims mic'd at .060 FREE

Oleman, i had my dealer mic by shim, it was .40.. After riding yesterday I'm preffy confident I feel more power climbing hills & getting to 30mph. Being you have actually tested the difference what did you come up with?? also did you find more power with the .60 shim apposed to the .40??

Hey, Great to hear you like your 360. I go the way of purchasing factory or aftermarket performance parts. I purchased the Dyno-Jet kit, the HMF pipe, Iridium spark plug, twin air filter, synthetic oil, etc. All tested and quality products. Anyway, with the dyno-jet kit it has recommendations for higher elevations and adjustment on the needle and in the jets. After the work on my P-360 it will pull a wheelie, not a big one and not for long but man it will pull them off the ground about 10 inches. If you are on any kind of an incline at all you have to be careful I just about flipped it over on myself the other day. As for roostering it will do it from a dead stop, around corners (have to be careful not to do a 360) on pavement with a front powerbrake it will smoke the rear tires. Anyway if you have any questions I would love to answer them, but for $65 bucks and all the testing they put into the kits there was not trial and error for me. And one biggest change here at my elevation has been turning the idle screw out 3 turns you might need just 2.5. Good luck.
