Default Help with Mojave jetting. (nuthin in the search)

I removed the stock airbox disaster. It's the reason I just rebuilt my Mo again!

I hung a uni filter right on the rear of the carb. It starts fine hot or cold.

I have no top end.......Bottom end is unbelievable though! It will break the tires loose in 4th gear or pull a stump though! But it won't rev.

Is this a shim the needle thing or do I need to rejet? Any jet #'s? My dealer sux and I will have to order anything I need, the next closest dealer is 2+ hours away.
What about a dial-a-jet?
thx

Chris,

I have a stock carb with a clamp-on K&N+Outerwear. When I ditched the airbox I went with a 134 main (I've been told you need a 140+ main with a clamp-on and a pipe) and the DAJ. You're supposed to jet 2-3 sizes lean. It works great in Sacramento. I've also ridden it in Pyramid Lake, NV at around 6000 feet. No rejetting needed or adjusting of the DAJ. I suppose if I went up to 9-10,000 I'd need to lean/adjust the DAJ dial. It runs real strong through the entire powerband.....

I do have an off-idle stumble that mojave's have. Greg @CWR suggested I go up one size on my pilot and starter jets. I've done the starter and not the pilot. It did help a little off-idle.

I had previously done the K&N jet kit with the different needle and shim. With a DAJ you probably won't need to do that. If you install it following the directions closely you shouldn't have any problems. You can also call Thunder Products. They're very helpful.

I just went through this about 2 months ago. I ended up using a Dynojet 134 main, and backing the idle air screw out 3 turns, runs fine, pulls right to the rev limiter with no hesitation....I never did mess with the pilot jet so I'm probably lean there...oh well. Just make sure you don't strip out the soft screws taking the carb apart, I almost did and had to get a few off with the vice grips. I found some hex head screws at the local hardware store that take a 6mm socket now that are much safer..have fun.

Ok. So whats the stock main jet # for a Mojave? According to my repair manual it's a #135. I went and bought a 140 from the stealer, took it home and took the carb off and it has a #140 in it already. Plus the stock one is real short and the one I bought is 3 times as long and wont work.

I bought this quad brand new and this is the 1st time the carb has ever been touched.

Did they goof up at the carb factory when they built the carb or is the book wrong? Maybe this is why my gas milage has always been terrible?

You have to remember that the Dynojet and "stock" numbers don't line up correctly. Mine had a 132 stock size in it, according to the keihien numbering system. A dynojet 134 is way way bigger than a stock 132 though. Nyroc or someone had a website that I used to compare sizes....sorry.

Ok guys, I just did some major work(valves, spark plug wire, and carb) on our mojave. The only thing that I changed was instead of having the k&n filter that fits in the stock air box, I went with a k&n clamp on with an outerwear. It has a dyno jet #134 main and the clip on the needle, is in the #3 position. I adjusted the idle air screw out 3 turns like 96lapiscoupe did. I can get it to idle, but, if I don't "bump" the throttle, it will die

Steve55, is this what you were discribing about an "off idle stumble"? I tried to slightly turn the idle screw to be just right but, it doesn't help or at least I'm not finding that "sweet" spot. Did I miss something in else in thread? I read it multiple times. Any other ideas? before I start messing with the fuel mixture screw.

Thanks rescue

Yea, that's the option we did, when we went riding Saturday. Sounds like my daughter has the same problem with her hands and brain too LOL. She was having major problems trying to go up some of the hills, we were climbing
