Default censorship ???

I'm just making a generalization here, but feel as a supporting member, I have the right... I sometimes feel that the censorship is excessive here... OLDMANWHEELER just posted about the 12 Hours of ATV America race... & I'm assuming the reason his post was deleated, was because of the link to sign up for the race... several months ago, NYROC & I were looking at trying to design a dual A-Arm system for the Prairies, & looking for qualified forum members who would be interested in helping... my / our post was deleted, just in case if we did come up with anything, we might sell it... well that was a stretch & the project is no more... I also find that it bugs me, that you can't post a link to other forums here... I find that I'm posting more & more, & the member list is growing rapidly, on these less restricted forums... & during this time, I have witnessed the number of postings shrinking here... I personally like this forum, & loved the way the pages of post would fly though here... I don't want to see this forum die, but if things aren't loosened up a tad bit, I'll bet that it does...

Default censorship ???

I've had the same gripe about another popular ATV forum (which will remain nameless). Like you, I also dislike censorship on any ATV forum...but I really enjoy the technical knowledge found on this forum, so I'll just leave it at that.

Happy trails...

just try typing bluetrax or a similar name and all hell will break loose. I have seen many threads go unchecked, unedited, and undeleted when it was obvious that all that was occuring was immature flaming or simple ignorance. Kind of like the "yamaha is better than honda" threads, the yfz/trx threads, etc. Endless posting of "my quad is faster than your quad" and "will this quad beat this other quad?"

yet intelligent posts dealing with important things get deleted. they usually dont edit, they simply remove. Most members on this board know of the other forums anyway, so who cares if we mention them? Bt has some very good tips on jetting the yamaha raptor complete with pictures and step by step instructions. But I cant let anyone know...

I have also seen a resurgence of sales threads. Many people are selling things right in the forums. It usually takes a couple days for the mods to find and remove them. I agree that sales should not be allowed in the general forums. But many simply slip through the cracks while threads like the one you had listed get removed almost immediately.

I really admire and appreciate the work that dave and the mods have done on this forum. Its a great place full of very good people, even if you have to search through the 12 years olds to find them. I dont want to sit here and complain too much because this is a massive forum. There are many, many threads to search through and not all can be paid attention to. I understand that open sales cant be allowed, and I agree. But I think the definition of said threads needs to be shifted a little.

CWG...LOL... I could probably take it easier, if only the offensive words or links were deleated, rather entire posts...

MIKEY... I think we can use "that" forums name here, because they are a supplier that some of the supporters sell, & while it does get me iritated ocasionally over there, I do understand advertising a competitors product, but again sometimes "adversising" another product is stretched as well... I would not want to be in their position, with their forum... there are currently several rapidly growing forums that are much easier to post freely on...

I do like the option of being able to post pics, in your post as well... I hope "that" forum is able to retain that feature...

Here we go again making assumptions when what happened was OLDMANWHEELER spammed the forums.http://forums.atvconnection.com/faq.cfm

3.Duplicate Messages--please don't post the same message more than once and in multiple forums.

He posted in nine areas of the forum. The one that remains isThread Title: 12 HOURS OF ATV AMERICA

660R... you are correct, I assumed... however, I personally ( as you know ), have had problems with the "spam" rule anyway... I guess I don't agree that If I'm trying to push a charity event, or a local clubs mud race, that there is a real problem with putting a short notice in each brands forum... I'm a very busy professional, & I honestly have never set foot in several of the brands forums ( aside from my infractions to the "spam rule" ) , if I don't own that brand of quad... if my local club is having a charity poker run ( for example ) there may be many of my forum friends that I'd like to let know, but those would only be found in the 2-3 specfic forums I post in... there may be Yamaha & Polaris owners, from my town, that I would welcome at this event, who will never know about it, because they may not post in my brands threads...

I certainly can understand the work you do, & don't think it's not appriciated, it just gets frustrating at times, as a forum member to deal with this specific type of censoring... if OLDMANS post had been deleted, & a link to the post you left in racing, was left in it's place, it would be easier for us as a community, to comunicate...

Its not easy moderating these forums and we get very few moderator reports sent in and that is one way to gauge how the forums are going, if you see something alert us through the moderator system.

I go by the rules on the FAQ page, I didn't set them up but I sure don't have a problem applying them and if you don't like the rules you should really be appealing to the owner of the ATV Connection forums for a change and not to blame the moderators.

As far as linking to the other sites what I see is the other forums spamming this site for members so that is the reason for the policy of no linking.

Quote from the owner of ATV Connection forums.

"I know you may not understand. But we built this site on our own and you'll
need to build yours without help from us or our members. "

Here is a little history about the owner of the ATV Connection forums " dbeck "

In 1996 there was only one ATV web site on the entire Internet. The site was a personal site made by Dave Dossett (ATVDave.) I started ATV Connection in 1996 and it was the first commercial ATV web site. I took what I learned from CompuServe and AOL and I built community features into our ATV Internet magazine. I added email discussion forums, a web-based discussion forum and an ATV chat room running IRC. These were all ahead of their time and are widely copied today. Being a pioneer in the early days of the Internet was difficult. There was no road to follow and most of what I tried was trial and error.

I remember sitting at the computer at 11:00 pm at night watching for the last update on the traffic statistics for the day. The first time we had 12 people visit the site we celebrated! Then it was 100, 500, 1000 and now today we have over 200,000 unique readers each month from over 50 different Countries! We grew from one web server to ten and became our own ISP in order to support the bandwidth and hardware needs driven by ATV Connection Magazine.

We've come along way since those early beginnings in 1996. But our focus to "connect ATVers" from around the world and to provide an informative, interesting and a fun place to visit has remained unchanged. As we continue to grow we'll be in a stronger position to do more for the ATV industry and community and especially to support the efforts of ATV clubs.

I think a lot of members/readers don't even see the other side of what dbeck really does and that is the:

.atvconnection.com online magazine

I was reading the magazine years before I signed up to the forums.
