660R... 1st, thank you for moderating "our" forum... & the bit 'o history...
You are right, that "we" should address the owner of the site, for any changes in policy, it is only your job to enforce, not interprate the rules...
The fact that I started this thread, & that I'm a supporting member, should only confirm that I'm concerned about the forum... in the time that I've been here, I've watched the Kawi postings go from several pages a day, to sometimes less than one, while the ATV community continues to grow... in a time when we as a community are witnessing trail / land closures, I'm aware of people that can't even ride on their own property, because of ordenances passed in their counties... IMO, we need more open communication, between brands, even between forums... ( I feel the need to hug a cute Honda owner, right now ...LOL... )... but I feel that I made several relivant & valid points in my previous post, concerning comunication... I'm sure there are several "hostile" forum owners out there, & I mean no disrespect to DBECK, but there is nothing out there, that could pull an actively posting ATV owner away from a "good" forum, once they find one... & it is the actual forum members that really determine if it is a good forum or not, not who owns the site... If anyones site is able to retain active knowledgeable posters, that are allowed to pass on their expirience, the site will grow... I personally hit pretty hard, 5-6 sites... I normally only go on the kawi threads... if there is no activity, I move on...even if it was an awesome site, it is the activity that will draw me in...

I guess its just online politics? And is what will always happen when us alpha males get together and talk about something we all have a passion for? Great thing about the Web, there are dozens of fourms! ~coop

Its not easy moderating these forums and we get very few moderator reports sent in and that is one way to gauge how the forums are going, if you see something alert us through the moderator system.
I go by the rules on the FAQ page, I didn't set them up but I sure don't have a problem applying them and if you don't like the rules you should really be appealing to the owner of the ATV Connection forums for a change and not to blame the moderators.
As far as linking to the other sites what I see is the other forums spamming this site for members so that is the reason for the policy of no linking.
Quote from the owner of ATV Connection forums.

Here is a little history about the owner of the ATV Connection forums " dbeck "
In 1996 there was only one ATV web site on the entire Internet. The site was a personal site made by Dave Dossett (ATVDave.) I started ATV Connection in 1996 and it was the first commercial ATV web site. I took what I learned from CompuServe and AOL and I built community features into our ATV Internet magazine. I added email discussion forums, a web-based discussion forum and an ATV chat room running IRC. These were all ahead of their time and are widely copied today. Being a pioneer in the early days of the Internet was difficult. There was no road to follow and most of what I tried was trial and error.
I remember sitting at the computer at 11:00 pm at night watching for the last update on the traffic statistics for the day. The first time we had 12 people visit the site we celebrated! Then it was 100, 500, 1000 and now today we have over 200,000 unique readers each month from over 50 different Countries! We grew from one web server to ten and became our own ISP in order to support the bandwidth and hardware needs driven by ATV Connection Magazine.
We've come along way since those early beginnings in 1996. But our focus to "connect ATVers" from around the world and to provide an informative, interesting and a fun place to visit has remained unchanged. As we continue to grow we'll be in a stronger position to do more for the ATV industry and community and especially to support the efforts of ATV clubs.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
We don't allow the duplicate threads to be posted for a reason. Imagine what the forum would look like if every person decided to post their topic 15 or 16 times. It would be a horrible mess. Then people would complain about all of the duplicate posts. You might think to yourself, "well, people would only post the really important topics in mutliple forums" Unfortunately, that's not true. Been there, done that, bad assumption. The best solution available is to not allow duplicate posts.
Regarding "censorship" -- ever wonder how the words in the posting filters got to be there? As the largest and most active ATV forum on the web we're the first place new sites come to promote their forum and try to get members. If a site's name is in the posting filters it's because they came here and spammed the forums with ads for their site. We ask them not to do that, and they refused to stop. So they end up in the filters. If you want to blame someone because you can't link to a site, blame the owners of the site who came over here and abused our forums.
Newbeatle - I didn't see that post but I can tell you that OMW works for a commercial web site therefore his post probably was an advertisement for an event that site was affiliated with. We're not in the business of giving away free advertising. If we were, we would be out of business.
As for declining postings...your reasoning is incorrect. Posting counts are seasonal. We dropped from 85,000 pages read each day to 67,000 pages read each day. In a couple of months we'll be up over 90,000 pages a day. It has to do with the time of year. If you want to see how those other forums rank compared to us go to http://www.alexa.com/browse/categories?catid=297318 We are ranked number 1 for the magazine and number 3 for the forums. No other forum made it into the top 5.
Also, we do know that hotmail is spam filtering notices from us. There are probably 40 new members a week who never receive their emailed password because of hotmail sticking our sign up info into the junkmail folder. We're working on fixing the problem.
We are a business. The magazine is our business. The forums are a service to the ATV community and are not our primary focus. First and foremost we're an online ATV magazine. Therefore, we can't allow free advertising or commercial use of the forums.
We try to be as lenient as possible without giving away the farm.
Thanks for the feedback. We'll review things and see if there might be some other options available too.
