250 Bayou
#2
Hey Shoveopoly, my bro has a 250 bayou and a few of my friends have some 220 bayou's. In my friends bayou 220 he has a jet kit, k&n air filter. I rode it a few times and would say that it is faster off the line and has better throtle response. Also he beats on his quad a lot so it might not perform the way your quad would we these parts. I have looked into a K&N air filter and a K&N jet kit for my brother's bayou. The air filter is about $57.00 plues tax and all that, and the jet kit alone is $60.00 without having it put in by your local dealer. On my lakota sport the grand total for my jets and having them put in by the dealer was $180.00 I also have a twin air filter which i love, that was $20.00. But over all i would say that jet kit will help you quad but also your quad might drink a lot more gas depending if the jets are put in right. Good Luck!

Thanks for your help. Have you ever thought about modding the exhaust? Spent the last week or so modding the air box and exhaust on my bike (TTR125L) and re-jetting the carb. Would have been easier with a kit, but none available. One more quesation, is your brothers Bayou cold blooded? Mine doesn't like to run when cold, and takes a good 15 to 20 mins to warm up.

My brother quad loves all the seasons and when he got it last year it was in the middle of winter and it was very cold. It ran great and does not take a long time to warm up at all. My friends 220 bayou runs sweet in the winter too and his quad barly needs choke after 30 seconds. What kind of oil do you use in your bayou in the winter and how long do you keep the choke on for.

I use what the dealer gives me, think it's 5-30 in the winter and 10-40 in summer. If take the choke off before 10 mins it will stall, and a good 20 mins before it will idle. I even turned up the idle a little , and it diddn't help. When new, had it in dealer and thay said thats the way it is.

You are right on with your oils, but i don't know why you have to keep the choke on for so long. I don't know why your dealer said that because that is false information. Maybe your carb needs to be cleaned that the only thing that i can think of. New spark plug to, for the hell of it.

Have changed the plug a few times. My bike was like that untill I opened up the air box, washered the exhaust, and rejetted the carb. Thats what got me thinking adout trying this with my Bayou. Guess I will try it and let you all know what happens.
