What exactly is the fix for the BF750 missing problem??
#1
My 05 BF750 has the common missing problem around zero to 15 MPH. I took it to the dealer for the A-arm recall thing and asked them to do what they could with the missing problem too. They had it for two weeks. The tech said he had to adjust the idle needles quite a bit and that it was very lean. My first thought was that the idle circuit probably doesn't have quite that much effect very far off idle, but thought I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. It was raining and I was in a hurry when I went to pick it up, so I didn't ride it at the dealer except to put it in the back of the truck. It noticed it stumbled and popped right off the bat, but figured it was probably cold and I didn't have the choke on (again benefit of the doubt).
When I got home I rode it around the block once (it was raining) and immediately noticed that it really sputtered and popped right off idle which it didn't do before they worked on it. After that the bike seems to surge up to 15-20 MPH and still pops and sputters although not quite as bad. When I got it into the garage I reved it a couple of times (not very high, just off idle) and my wife actually came out to see what sounded so sick. If she can hear it anyone can...
I know this topic has been addressed a bunch of times, but I'd like to get all the info I can on one post so I can take it too my dealer (Portland Motorcycle in Portland, Oregon) and use it to help them understand the problem. If anyone has actually talked to someone from Kawasaki and has a name or phone number for the person, this would be appreciated too.
It really REALLY REALLY pisses me off that I have to take a brand new $7600 toy to the shop and I will not stop until it it 100% fixed. I'm giving the dealer on more shot at it (with the hopefully great info I get from all of you) and then I start writing letters and making phone calls and getting down right mad.
Thanks for your time!!!

Hey there. I have a Brute as well. Here's my thoughts on the "miss"...
How many miles do you have on it? I have 600+ miles and that slow speed pop has almost completely gone away. Yes, it still does do it here and there, but not enough that I'm going to do much about it. It may get better as you go along, maybe not though. I don't think all Brutes are affected the same way. Some are prolly worse than others. I beleive that it is a lean condition and the remedy may just be a carb adjustment...like the Pilot screw. It's hard to get to, but this supposedly can help richen the mixture at lower speeds. It may be worth mentioning to your dealer.
I agree with you that settling for anything other than a perfect running macine is unacceptable, but the ATV industry as a whole seems to have a lot of "issues" that we all put up with. Just look at the forums! Most posts are problem related!
So then, the goal I think is to get that mixture "richened" After that.... perhaps an ignition problem?

Mike,
I believe the "fix" for this is changing the metering rod on the front carb, but I haven't done anything about it myself yet. Hopefully someone who actually has changed theirs will pipe up in this thread and let us know if this indeed cures the problem.
