Sounds good to me, any kind of lakota's are good. The only big difference between the 2 are racks and lights other wise they are the same.

Start with this:

exhaust- Either supertrapp or dg hp2 system
air filter- K&n
jet kit- k&n
sprocket- 13t

When you get money or if you have enough get

tires
wheels
fenders
bumper
nerfs

plus theres even more.

This are the parts i would get from beginning to end
Air filter- twin air (they stopped making k&n filters for the lakota)
Dg Xcclerator HP2 system (my pipe very nice looks better than supertrapp)
Jet kit (i have a moose jet kit but k&n are great too either one is good)
13 tooth sproket (don't have one yet next few weeks)
Front bumper (Dg V-pro on my lakota sport)
nerf bars (For christmas i'm getting mine, Fat series DG)
new tires-wheels (i'm getting T-9 series soon with razrs)
330 big bore if you have the money to burn and what a fast a$$ lakota
There are still a ton more parts for the lakota but these are the most needed. I have to get better pictures of my quad, you can barley see what it looks like. I will maybe work on that this week if i have the time.

...So why did they can the Lakota, or Lakota Sport as it was known? Also- do you need to keep an eye on the valve adjustments like on the Mojave? I've seen abunch of used ones for pretty good prices, but most say that they have a new timing chain, valves and piston and rings. That sounds to me like they where wound the pi$$ out of.

Hey Kwackermann, lakota's kick a$$ i love my quad and the only thing that i hear bad about them is that they are heavy. Also lakota motors are based on the bayou 300 motor and the bayou motors last forever so i would think that the lakota's will too. I have not had any problems with my quad yet, i know for a fact that lakota's are not as much maintance as the mojave's so no you don't really have to adjust the valves and all that other stuff daily or like every ride. Also the one main reason why they stopped making the lakota's and lakota sports is because the new bayou 250 came out in 2003 the last year of the lakota sports and they forcus on the bayou more. The retail on lakota's are also good too, i had looked at one before buying mine last year and it was in mint condition and they wanted like $2,900 it was an 2001 bone stock. Over all, before i bought my lakota sport i did a lot of research on the lakota's and found them to be the best trail 300 quads and one of the most reliable sport quads on the market. Also they are easy and fun to ride and can be fast with the right parts put on. Mine rips with the parts i have on can get around my track and through my trails fast and with no problems. Lakota's rock!

.. Yes, that's one of the reasons I've been eyeballing the Lakota. One of the things I don't care for on the Bayou is the Shaft drive and drum brakes. I don't mind a used unit so long that it hasn't been abused- gonna pickone up tommorow, the only thing it needs is new rear tires, really. Gonna give it an oil change whileI'm at it just for kicks. Then I'm gonna strip it down and redress it in Kawasaki Team Lime Green- I'll post pics when I'm done................
