new p650 engine?
#1
I bought the 2002 Prarie 650 about 2 years ago, and ever since i've owned it, when it was revved up, the engine made kind of a slapping sound. Hard to explain, i had never heard anything like it. I never thought anything of it, because it always ran great other than that. But then, about a month ago, it just started cutting out whenever i revved it up. So i brought it to the dealer, and they told me someone had run it without oil, and the cams and a bunch of bearings and piston rod and a few other things were shot. They want 2000 to fix it. My question is, for 2000, couldn't i just get a brand new engine? I was looking online, but i couldn't find anyone that sold a brand new engine, they just sell it in parts. I guess if I knew exactly what parts needed to be replaced, i should be able to fix them.

Unfortunately kawasaki and other japanese companys do not sell complete motors , but there are engine builders out there that build mostlly performance engines , they may do somthing for you .
Good luck

It sounds like the lower part of your engine... very expensive to go there. Keep in mind that twins are almost twice as expensive to work on than singles. Did you buy it at the dealership? Also the rev up stalling is not nessary a engine problem it could be carberators I had that on mine. How did they tell your machine had no oil? is it appart? If they did a compression test thet probably did it wrong.

For about $2K, you can probably ship the whole motor to FST and get a 765cc BBK installed. If I were you, I'd give Mickey D.(FST) a call and see what he can do for you.

I bought the quad from the dealer that is looking at it now. They said they knew it ran out of oil from the parts that needed to be replaced i assume, but don't take my word. They did take it apart though. It doesn't actually stall, but it cuts out, which could definitely be a carb problem, because it happens to my Z a lot when i go through a day of mud, but as soon as i take the carb apart and clean it, it works fine. I don't think thats the problem on the prarie. That was my other worry, V-twin means two of everything so its twice as expensive to fix. I mainly use it to plow the driveway so i definitely need to have it running before the snow starts falling which gives me some time, but I don't know about sending it out and having it bored out. It's really just to plow the drive and putz around on, i got my Z to race. haha Sending it out is not out of the question though, so we'll see. Do u have the number, maybe i will just call him and get an idea of how the process works.

Mickey Dunlap (FST) can be reached at 814-842-6159...I think he only answers ph calls in the afternoon (something like 3pm to 6pm). For the record, I would LOVE to have one of his BBKs on my lil P650.
