Default 2003 Kawaasaki Bayou 250

Hi Everyone,

First of all I'm new and green to the ATV world and this will be my first ATV.

I'm looking to purchase a used Bayou 250 with low hours on it for trail riding and light work around my vacation home in the mountains. It's a 2X4 semi-automatic with a foot shifter. Can someone please explain to me in detail exactly how to shift gears on this unit.

Also any type of input on quality and reliability on this model would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

semi-auto, so it has no clutch. Im guessing the pattern is either 1down, 4up or 1down, 5up. depending on if it is a 5 speed or a 6. To engage first, simply step on the shifter ( left foot) you will feel a click, then let go. your in 1st. Then for the rest of the gears, pull up on the shifter, 2ed, 3ed, ect. To downshift, simply step on the shifter. Just play around and you will get it very quickly.

the bayou has 5 gears + reverse. to get gears 1-5 you just click up on the shifter. to get into reverse you go down to neutral then turn the **** on the left side of the tank and then shift down. to get out of reverse just shift up and you should be in 1st gear again

hay, I used to own a bayou 220.It is the same thing as that 250 except a couple cc's and little styling. I bought mine used. When i bought it, it supposably had 40 or so hours on it. It rode that thing prctically every day for about two years. I easily had 3000 miles on the thing. It is very reliable. The first time it had to go into the shop is when it was 5 years old. The brakes lines, brakes, and starter all had mad and crap in it and messed every thing up. fter getting it fixed, ran just fine. I think that thing was pretty bullit proof myself. You should buy that 250. Would work good unless you need 4x4.

My bro has a bayou 250 and it kick a$$, i love how the bayou's look and drive. They are perfect for little work around the house and are sweet quads in the trails. My friend has a bayou 220 and it's a 1996 and it still runs strong never been to the shop. They are easy to maintain with changing the oil and oil filter changing the gear case oil and cleaning the air filter. With simple mainance like this this quad will last forever. Shifting is cake 12345 up and 12345 down to neutral and then turn the **** on the left side of the quad and shift down and your in reverse 1 up back to neutral or first gear. Get the bayou it's a nice user-friendly quad you'll love it. I like racing quads but the bayou just flat out rocks!!!

all u have 2 do iss click up to 1st from neutral then juss keep clickin the gear changer up from 12345. Do the opposite 2 goo down. and click down from neutral 2 get 2 reverse.

P.S.-Make sure u let of the throttle a little when changinn can cause future damage even though people say it cant.but that is a good bike 2 gett though!!
Enjoy (:
