Belt still loose after removing shim
Hey all, I installed a new belt last week, the Dayco HP-2017, thought it was too loose when I put it on. Took the shim out tonight and it still seems loose. What else should I be looking at? My guess is that there is more then 1.5 inches of deflection in the belts, (tried new and old, old was worse). What can I do to tighten this up?
Thanks

Belt still loose after removing shim
What NovaKaw650 said (hey, pal):
The last time I removed and installed my belt, it was very loose after putting it all back together. I rotated the secondary sheave and the belt tightened up and came into deflection spec as the sheave came together. Had me guessing for a while though.
I'm thinking you are having the same problem I did and that the sheave tightens up onto the belt after starting it. Otherwise, it would be squealing and going into limp mode if it was as loose as you say.

Ditto on rotating your pulley to get belt to top of pulley for deflection check. If your belt was loose it should have been squeeling on take off.
If Belt is not squeeling on take off but Is it squeeling after taking out the shim, cover on, and engine in gear, put it in neutral and see if squeel goes away. If this is the case, your belt is a little TIGHT.
