hi, im looking for a cheap quad and found a bayou for 1400 it is and 86 which is not that old. i need to be able to go through snow, a little mud and not slide to much. I was wondering if this is a good atv for what i want it for thanks

Like was said, 2x4 won't be your best option for snow or mud. That being said, I had an 86 300 and would rate it very high. The lockable/unlockable rear diff was a GREAT feature. It wasn't overly powerful, but took everything I could throw at it without a sniffle. Tough machine.

Hey a bayou rocks at all those things you were talking about. My brother has a bayou 250 and that thing can get through 6" of snow easy we had it up to the headlights in mud, any quad is going to slide but you have to control it. Also it is a very good quad very reliable quad will last forever, and the motor puts out a good amount of power. Like NEWDUCK said it is a little up there in price but see if you can get it for like $1,200 than i would go for it. Otherwise it's a great quad and you'll be very shock what that quad can do.

I had a 2002 220 Bayou. It was a decent machine...the timing chain went on it though. I used it for work. Some have mentioned that it was okay in snow, but I beg to differ. I now own the 360 4x4 because I couldn't stand the 2x4 as it was really poor in snow. I was stuck so much in the snow that I would just 'shut her down' through the winter and use my sled. I go deep into hunt camps and do Maple syrup and haul serious firewood and the 220 did it all but it did get stuck in snow to readily.
Really a good machine, stay away for 2wd if you want to do anything serious as far as back woods.
