Default Its valve time

I can hear the valves tapping at a specific rpm. I had them done at 10 hours, now im somewhere around 140. A dealership quoted me 60 bucks to adjust the valves. This doesnt sound too bad.

Are you sure it isn't something else that might be loose and rattling at a specific RPM???

But maybe this is a good time to learn how to do the adjustment....

yeah I got so far as to remove the little covers and look at them last time I had it all apart. Thats when I decided I dont care to learn that particular thing:-) . Its getting colder out and I dont have a garage. It made a faint version of the same noise at 10 hours and went away after the first adjustment. Now its 130 hours later and its been getting louder. last time they were done was march 2002, so either way its time.

Sounds like the valves- 400PrarieXLT. 60 bucks ain't that bad, just about really. If ya let the valves go, it'll get alot more expensive......

On the other hand, $60 buys a lot of beer and pizza so you and your friends can sit around and work on it.....

Oh sorry, you don't have a garage....how about a buddies garage???

Its sad to say all my riding buddies have left. Thats part of military life. And after 60 bucks in beer and pizza, they wouldnt be anywhere near my wheeler anyway.......
Budxxx, I read your bio about being an avionics troop in the army. I have been an avionics guidance and control Tech in the Air Force for almost 10 years now. Spent the first 5 working backshop, then about 4 after than doing micro-miniature circuit card repair, and now im on the flightline working on C-130's. I guess the last thing I want to do after a 12 hour work day is wrench on something else in the cold :-)
