Im looking to buy a 4 wheeler and my friend has a 87 mojave for sale. Its stock except for a supertrapp pipe (not in greatshape), rear 24'' bear claws, 250r rear shock and new sprokets but rear brake don't work so what do you think its worth?

depends on the motor. was it ever rebuilt? does it smoke at all(especially when its first started)? does it leak oil?

The rest of the bike such as faulty rear brakes, bad looking exhuast, etc... won't cost as much to repair in both time and money as the motor.

With that said and assuming the motor is in decent shape i would have to say $1000-1200 give or take a few $.

Ok, 87's had weak valves so they are usally mushroomed the intake cam is usally wiped too. For the valves made them prewear before their time, I would say it's worth about $500 max I bought one here from a guy locally for a young friend of the family and yes it didn't idle right and the first sign it's toasted on the top end...and don't kid yourself and try to make excuses if it don't idle right or it feels like their is a carb problem...intake cam is wiped, so a intake cam $125 threw kawie valves intakes $29 each the exhaust will usally be fine. their you go I hope that gives you insight, I used to race these things in the late 80's and know everything their is to know about them, PS the shocks are wiped to for they all leaked and ride like log wagons you will need a set for the frt at least or you will hurt your self riding threw rough terrain.

PS, they were sold new for $2299 at that price they were to much money. beware the rear axle bearings as well were weak as well the side cover for reverse they all leaked if reverse doesn't work it rusted and locked up inside, this bike was not nice to the consumer if they like mud and water.

One more thing if your going to pay 1k to 1500 look for a 250x they were better bike to hold up even though they were air cooled. Performance wise they were pretty even, the HOnda you can find more after market stuff for as well.

I have an 87 Mojave and it runs fine. But the motor was rebuilt. Mine has Dirtdevil tires on it. I have only had minor problems such as a busted chain and had to get new timing chain and clutch. I think it would be worth around $500 through $1000. If you can get it and looks like it is in good shape I would get it. And like the other guy said yes they are good in mud.

you can ride one with a wiped cam but it doesn't hve the power it should and is real fun to start when hot. IF you got a 87/88 Mojave and it's all stock never any motor work done, it better have low miles for the valve are weak very weak, go back in old dirt wheels mags it has stories on them even ask a Kawasaki dealer the mech of course they will tell you that the intake cam was under lubercated and that prewear the cam and the valves were soft.
