I've owned my 87 Mojave for about 8 years now. I've never had a problem with it, standard maintianance is the only work I've had done to it (brakes, oil, plugs, etc.) I've rode this quad HARD and it still starts right up and runs excellent!

I've got a 13 tooth front sprocket, UNI air filter, Cobra Jet Exhaust, and 22" rear tires. It'll hit the rev limiter in every gear including 5th with me (a 290lb guy) on it! I took it to Silver Lake Sand Dunes, here in Michigan, so my friend had something to ride. It was the ONLY 250 4-stroke there and it made it up every hill without paddles!

I also had a 110 Mojave when I was a child, still have it actually, and it still runs fine as well! My mom uses it for hauling her gardening stuff around, LOL.

I have 2 Mojave's and love both of them! My 1990 is highly moded and the 1987 is lightly moded. I like them more than the 250x I had! They are great quads. If only they would make a bigger motor, I might not have to look at the Raptor.

If you own one keep track of the kick starter idler gear. When the bushing wears out it will snap off the main shaft of the transmission that it rides on. This happens a lot. There is also a oil screen inside of the clutch cover that should be cleaned once a year that only the shop manuel tells you about. Other than that it is a nice bike.

A few years ago I rode my friends 88 mojave. But it was beat, and I mean BEAT. The thing leaked oil and idled so fast you could actually ride it without ever touching the throttle!! I didn't fit on it too well and the shifter was too close to the foot peg. I really can't give a good opinion cause I've never ridden a well maintained one. I'd like to go against one with my 400 though. Just for kicks.
